I think TV5 is missing something here. Before when Philippine television was dominated by ABS and GMA, people were very tired sa typical formulaic shows ng two giant networks.
And since hindi pa lahat may smartphones, socialmedia, and internet noon, TV5 was the great avenue to watch shows na kakaiba and bago.
They were very good at making shows na parang content creation style na explorative.
They can't beat weekday primetime shows kaya they targeted Saturday primetime with the cult classic Midnight DJ and Talentadong Pinoy.
Sunday Primetime? Cult classic again, WOW MALI.
Drama? People were tired sa typical afternoon or primetime dramas kaya they resorted to a real life drama copying Jerry Springer's style, thus we have the cult classic Face-to-face.
Weeknights with TV5 were a mixed of edgy comedy shows like LokoMoko and Ogags or Tagalog dubbed movies.
They also saw that many kids and teens were lacking the luxurious access to 24/7 animes and cartoons sa free-TV kaya nagkaroon ng Animega and Nickelodeon.
Shakugan No Shana? Special A? Fushigi Yugi? Code Geas? Those were the greats after ng Barney, BluesClues, Bob the Builder, and HighFive sa umaga.
Sa sobrang content creator ng TV5 noon, until now ginagawang memes and pinapanood parin madalas mga shows nila sa YT like Face-to-face and WOW MALI.

TV5 don't need to compete to be at the top spot, I bet if they compete to be your alternative channel with new and edgy shows like what they produced before? Perhaps their ratings might go up again.
Yes they are replicating the shows today but not as edgy anymore.

iirc it airs during friday or saturday night tapos right before lalabas na ang show pumupunta kame ng tatay at kapatid ko sa tindahan para bumili ng piattos cheese na malaki tas gagawa kame ng sauce for it. we'll watch and snack tapos after ng show pag- uusapan namin yung multo/ creature sa ep hahaha. peak bonding moment

Alternative programming kasi ang TV5 noon. Habang drama sa 2 channel, movie sila. Pag news naman, Wowowillie ang meron sa kanila. Tanghali, may Asian drama. Pero ayun, inuna kasi pagkuha ng big stars like Sharon, Derek, Aga, Dolphy, Richard kesa magpalawak ng reach. E di na panahon ng mga senior stars na yan. Then naging sports channel na. Yung mga stars na lumipat ng GMA like Jasmine, Shaira, Sophie Albert, andyan pa rin while yung sa ABS nawala like Ritz Azul, Mark Neumann and Akihiro. Si Alex Gonzaga lang umok though dahil naman yun sa kapit niya.
Namirata kasi sila ng namirata ng artista, instead of expanding their reach. Ang naging ending, wala silang naging ROI at napilitan silang magswitch to sports eventually. There was a short period pa nga that they were actually #2 in VisMin during their peak, beating GMA in that particular area. They weren't able to maintain that momentum, at nag-domino na lang in the succeeding years.
Di ko gets mga bosses nitong TV5. First time na may umiingay at nagtrending na loveteam sa network nyo yung Maeby ni Ryzza Mae at Bimby. Pagkakataon nyo na yun para sumugal sa kanila kasi nga no risk no reward diba. Pero ang nisipan nyo talagang sugalan na loveteam eh si Marvin at Jolina kaloka talaga kayo TV5.

TV5 was at its best when they positioned their programming as “alternative offerings” and not as a trying hard wanna be of either ABS or GMA.
But when the experiment on doing a teleserye (Babaeng Hampaslupa with Alex Gonzaga) that aired at early prime (before newscast) became successful and made Alex as the bankable face of TV5, they must’ve thought mas meron talagang clamor for such types, and probably more sponsors/adverisers coming in kaya binago na nila at sumunod nalang sa agos. Si Willie ang nalipat ng timeslot, nag-tantrums tuloy yung isa ring face ng TV5 na lumaki rin lalo ang ulo. :)
Kaya yung mga sumunod na attempts nila to do, even sitcoms, trying hard wanna be na rin ang dating. And sad to say, while Marvin and Jolina are still fun to watch together and are both talented, parang hindi na uubra ang team-up nila sa ganitong type of show.. Especially not a series na mahirap i-sustain.
