DeleteMy ex was the son of one of the owners of a national supermall and hotel chain (not SM). Chinese rin sila. We got along well but after a few years, I realized na iba ang expectations nila - they consider their clan/family in all the major decisions. I understand - their elders worked hard to give them a wealthy life. If I wanted to stay, my own career had to take a backseat. I was so young then and I wanted to explore my choices and the larger world. I wanted to do grad studies and work abroad. Love was not enough nor was the temptation of being a salted fish, provided for in affluence for the rest of my life. My friends and even relatives thought I was crazy -ang yaman raw, bakit pa ako hihindi? I let go - the life I dreamed of cannot be lived in a gilded cage. No regrets. It has been years and I have my own career here in England. I wished him well and I think he lives a good life too.
