Letter from a Reader: Instagrammer Gets Addicted to Stealing Photos, Claims as Her Own

Dear Fashion PULIS,

Less than a year ago, my friends and I discovered that a "friend" of ours had been taking credit for pictures posted by other people on her INSTAGRAM account, misleading her followers that she was the one who took the photo. As a concerned friend, I decided to confront her seeing that she started getting addicted to stealing other's posts and taking it as her own. Surprisingly upon confrontation, lies and tall tales were said. Instead of fessing up the moment I showed her concrete evidence of her stealing pictures, she claimed her phone got stolen prior and that her posts were made by her alleged thief.

However, prior to her "stolen phone incident," she had already been posting such pictures, thereby losing her credibility and add the fact that she instantly deleted her recent post to mask her deception. After my tirade, she felt betrayed, I did not because I only tried to help. As harmless as it may seem to want to gain popularity, taking credit for someone's work is still dishonesty that could become a habit and be charged with a crime. Such a shameful act must be stopped.

After a while, she mellowed down and didn't post much. Thoughts floated through my brain, thinking that she could have learned her lesson. How wrong I was! She had the gall to revert back to her old ways - posting bogus locations and trying harder to completely fool innocent people on social media. I fear I am too late as it has already corrupted her. I believe she needs help to let her see what's right.

Sincerely,
A very concerned old friend.

  21. Thats the prob with social media. Im sure what drives this copycat to "steal" photos is peer pressure ... to impress her friends. The desire to be "in" is so great that she doesnt care anymore if it's right or wrong! Trying to pretend to be someone she's not.. thats hard. Such an unhappy life!

  41. Lahat ng nagdedefend sa social-climbing friend ng letter sender, please get your heads checked. You think plagiarism is petty? That sh** is just wrong, man. If this is the only way to knock some sense into her friend then gorabells. Take this YouTuber missjenfabulous as an example, I know at one point you've heard about her or watched some of her tutorials. She steals nail art designs from small-time YouTubers and makes money off of it. She gets 100K every month for posting nail art videos that she claims she never copied. She was even featured in magazines for being a "nail art guru". She was called out but since 'yung mga ninakawan niya only have a few followers, wala din nangyari. She just keeps doing it. When a person steals pictures and videos from other people and is getting all the credit for it, that's when the public has to know.

    1. There is a line between exposing people who are stealing in order falsely profit over stolen property and "exposing" someone who may just have some personal issues on a site like this.

The copycat may have some issues but I am with the rest who say the so-called friend doing this "expose" is much worse in trying to cause such public shame and damage to her "friend" instead of dealing with it in a more appropriate way.

Unless of course you advocate public shaming as the best solution to everyone's personal problems?

      Delete
    2. I do not condone public shaming, but people like the friend need to be exposed. The friend did NOT change, did she? You can only do so much until you realize you need to do something bigger to teach her a lesson.

      Delete
  42. Plot Twist: Mas maraming nangbash kay "concerned friend" than kay copycat subject. Haha what's the point kasi of sending this to FP? Makapangbackstab lang?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Bakit may criteria ba si FP kung anong dapat ipadala sa Kanya? The mere fact that FP posted it means he feels it's warranted to be posted! Wag kang mag marunong bakit dapat I post to o Hindi... Palibhawa inverted Ang perception mo ng socially relevance!

      Delete
  43. Dear Sender,

Mag tika ka ineng malapit na holy week! Pagpray mo na lang "friend" mo. Nararamdaman ko pagiging b**** mo through my phone.

  44. My ilang friends din ako sa IG na ganyan. Hnd m makuha yun point bakit kailangan na ipost m yun picture na hnd makapagyabang lang. Tsk tsk

  46. anong account bakit d pinakita? dapat makita para ibanned

    ReplyDelete
  47. Baka naman kase the sender was also a victim kaya ganyan sya. And probably she doesn't know any other venue to air this out to kaya naisip nya na gawin ito. Masama naman talaga yung ginagawa nung poser. It might look petty to some but there are people who earn their living from the internet and this is a big deal to them because this may involve a lot of money too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Public shaming? I don't think so.. hindi nga nakareveal ung identity..so if ever makita to ni copycat sa sarili na sya mahihiya... sna malearn nya lesson nya... pero kaduda duda din si friend ha ang effort nya halungkatin ung origs

I hope we stick to the issue and not question motives... To be objective than critical of intent. Alam naman natin masama Ang plagiarism but we'd rather attack the sender. Pano kung picture mo yung ninakaw and posted as hers?

  57. This is a sad story. Your friends betray you on the cyberspace, and you, on the other hand, are losing touch with the reality of your own life. You even need to steal pictures to create a make-believe story for people to see. Sad indeed.
