Sorry, but I have to say this. Bumaba na talaga ang quality of what we call “best actor” or “best actress”. I recently rewatched some classic Filipino films and ibang level talaga ang caliber ng mga artista noon Dindo Fernando, Jay Ilagan, Fernando Poe Jr., Christopher de Leon, Ronaldo Valdez, etc… their presence, depth, and craft were simply on a different plane!
Hinahanap ni 11:51 eh un star quality. Best actor na may star quality pa. Sadly, bihira na yan ngayon. Unlike sa mga sinaunang artista. Kasi ngayon product na sila ng artista search. Sila un nagaaudition. Hindi mga handpicked o na discover na tipong unang tingin mo pa lang ay eto pwedeng artista ito. Mukhang mga artista na umpisa pa lang kaya na handpicked ng producer. Karamihan sa mga artista ngayon eh trying hard na trying hard na maging artista para maiahon ang pamilya sa kahirapan kahit ang face card at talent eh waley naman. Dapat both should exist. Mukha at talento. Hindi pwedeng isa lang. Si Dennis Trillo naman napahanga ako neto sa the OTJ Missing 8. in fairness marunong si Dennis umarte at hindi naman masakit sa mata ang mukha kahit na nilagyan siya ng prosthetics dun. Yun nga lang parang si Coco din na kinapos sa height
si Dennis pwede ihanay sa kanila, mas magaling pa nga kse nakaka crossover sa ibat ibang roles. yung mga namention mo stick lang sila sa specific character
Kasi pababa nang pababa taste ng Pinoy. Nawawala na ang identity dahil gaya nang gaya dun sa mga sikat na banyaga. Kawawa mga gen zs. Wala silang maipagmamalaking classic or masterpiece pagtanda nila. Baka nga hindi na sila makapag-produce ng National Artist.
There's era & batches kaya no comparison but you can't deny ang husay ni Dennis sa lahat ng roles na ginagampanan nya, yung wala kang mapintas dahil immersed at all out sya kung magportay ng roles, that's what set him apart sa mga kasabayan nya.
And with all due respect to the veterans actors you mentioned
Fernando Poe Jr was the best action star we had in Philippines cinema. He was a Superstar and the King of action Filipino movies.
But when it comes to acting, he was one dimensional actor. His acting style was similar throughout in all his movies. FPJ is similar to Sylvester Stallone and Clint Eastwood in Hollywood.
Nakita natin si FPJ sa mga comedy movies at drama but it was his side kick or supporting actor who gave the laugh and boots, not him.
Jay Ilagan was into heavy drama, pwede naman but have you seen him in other movie genre?
Even Philip Salvador was undeniably one of the best actor of philippine cinema, grabe ang galing nya sa Bona, Tinik sa dibdib etc.. Dennis Trillo is good din naman. I guess the quality of films and director may factor thats why mahuhusay sila noon.
Sayang. If they had a little more faith in Filipino talent, Dennis could have received the award onstage. Anyway, i hope he goes international and be successful.
Lesson learned sa mga award nominees kahit 0% chance na maging winner, eh gumora! kung sa xmas party nga, may chance kang manalo ng raffle prizes kahit buong staff ang kalaban mo, ganun din sa acting awards
Sa Aishite Imasu pa lang recognized na talent ni Dennis. But for me, napabilib nya ko sa nuanced acting nya sa My Husband's Lover. Congrats, well-deserved.
