Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2013 Ara Arida vs. Miss Universe 1996 1st runner-up Taryn Mansell

"One lesson in life that we, women, can teach men is being sensitive. Because we all know that men are more logical when it comes to decision. They usually are more rational, straight forward. Unlike we, women, we use our heart and we tend to get emotional in some of our decisions. For me, sensitivity is something that we can teach men." -Ara Arida ( MU Philippines 2013).

“El hombre de la mujer puede aprender la sensibilidad, o sea ser mas humano, no aguarse en su propio yo, la capacidad de luchar que tenemos nosotros y poder mental que tenemos nosotras” – Taryn Mansell (Miss Universe 1996, 1st runner-up).

    2. ACTUALLY FP, nagtaka rin ako kasi i read in her post interview na that question is one of the answers she prepared for daw. so meaning, the contestants already know the set of questions beforehand. tapos sabi rin ni boy abunda, those qs were not from the judges but from binibini pilipinas. that being said, eh huwad ang sagot na ito

      Delete
    3. Ito na. The author of these questions posted the ones which were not used on social media. From special projects siya sa network....

Even the writer should be briefed not to repeat questions....

    4. Ha? For sure the contestants will have studied old pageants...ngayon BBP is at fault?

    5. we hosted a beauty pageant before. and yes, pinapakita namin set of questions sa contestants before hand para magkaroon sila ng idea at mapaghandaan nla q and a at wag mag-stutter. I dont see any wrong about this practice.

    6. Weeeeell if thats the practice, share the qusstions with the whole world. And while youre at it, you can collect answers from the public for them to rehearse so they don't have to think at all...

      Just sayin!!!

      Delete
    7. That practice is like they are reviewing for an exam. sa pag-rereview lahat aaralin mo pero di mo naman alam ang mggng tanong come exam proper.

maigi na rin ang practice na to for the sake na maging kahiya-hiya ang contestants dhl sa pangangatal like janina san miguel.

    8. Anon 1:36 I guess you really mean para "hindi" maging kahiya-hiya. But yeah i got your point.

    10. First and foremost... the answer is going nowhere... she didn't justify how being emotional or sensitive can help in making good decision... she said that men should be sensitive but for what? how being sensitive can lead you to better decision? I think this is not a winning answer...

      Delete
    11. they need to review and practice, ano naman akala niyo wala lang, bahala na sila? they are being trained, and dapat lang naman na i-train din sila. the other countries are doing that as well, feeling niyo naman spontaneous lang sila?

      Delete
    12. sometime ago, the organizers said they have a set of questions given to the contestants for practice kase they wanted to avoid the candidates who could not answer. so, we should not even make a big deal out of this canned answer.

  17. "I believe men can learn sensitivity from women, men can learn warmth from women. I believe that men can learn a great deal from everything we have to offer." - Taryn Mansell

SAME ANSWER per magkaiba ng explanation. And hindi naman napakaunique at out of this world na sagot ang sensitivity no. So I don't think "sinotto" yung sagot niya tulad ng sinabi ng ibang mga nagcomment.

    ReplyDelete

    1. AGREE. Hindi "sinotto" yung answer nya. She gave a different and more elaborate answer. Siguro "inspired" or based dun sa answer ni Ms. Mansell because of the word "sensitivity" but it wasn't exactly copied. I think she is also managed by the same agency which handled Venus, Shamcey and Janine. Pero tingnan na lang natin how far can she go sa Miss Universe. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. i dont think she copied taryn's answer intentionally.
una, bkt kasi same ng nature ang tanong? kahit ako, kung ganun ang tanong, ang unang papasok sa isip kong isasagot ko rn talaga is sensitivity dhl ang stereotype ntn sa mga lalaki is matikas.

kumbaga, pag tnanong ka kung ano ang kahalagahan ng pag-aaral, most of us will answer para matuto at ito lng ang kayamanang di mananakaw.

ReplyDelete
  30. Did you guys managed to pass the upcat? If not, let's just respect her for that. Only chosen few are the ones who can enter UP and for that matter, Ara is a woman of intelligence and beauty. :)) no questions asked. Why not be happy coz we have a new beauty queen that will soon represent our country and instead give her our full support? :) besides the crown was given. The decision is but irrevocable and final! :)) #JustSaying

When UPCAT favors the marginalized students from the rural areas over the brighter ones in private schools? Your logic is so fucked up. Get real.

      Delete
    3. But if they gotta strip the title off Arida, they gotta kick writer of the question out, too.

      Delete
    4. ---thank you. and yes, that's definitely right and apparently as of now there is no evident reason for the bbp organization to strip the title off Ara. :)

--- and why do you say that the UP system favors those bright students in the marginalized areas over the urbanized well endowed ones??

Get real?? You know what's real honey? That Nowadays, UP gets inhabited by people from the higher classes who has adequate resources to afford high quality education. Whereas, those belonging to the marginalized classes, destitute enough, had no choice but settle for free scholarships they gain from various universities earned from their ostensible intellectual capacity. The reason why some students are loosing those screws and divert to taking their lives off. So if and then, UP caters to the poverty-stricken ones, well, suicides caused by lack of money to provide for their enrollment fees wouldn't surely take place my dear! THAT'S WHAT'S REAL :)) f*cked up logic huh?

--- hahaha! and your reply made me laugh Jules, makes sense! lol :))

      Delete
    5. Honey going back to the argument what is the basis of getting into UP then, brains? That was the main point of the argument in case you missed. UP does accept people who could afford higher tuition fees but I'm pretty sure you have the statistics to prove how many of such students comprise the UP campuses? I thought so. By the way, isn't the student you're referring to as the who took her life off from UP as well? She was marginalized and she got into UP right? Were you trying to say that UP favors the more financially endowed but less intellectual people over the poorer but more deserving students? If so, congratulations, you've just contradicted yourself. Ara may not be so bright after all just because she passed the UPCAT. Argument closed.

      Delete
    6. Dear, I graduated in UP and I must tell you, I'm very, very far from being one of those marginalized people. I paid full tuition. And my social status didn't hinder me from obtaining a degree with honors. Kaya if you're claiming that UP favors those who are marginalized over the well off, you're very wrong. UP favors intelligence over everything else.

      Delete
    7. YES, The argument should be closed my dear.. because your argument is kinda messed up. I'm sorry but it is.

Aren't you the one who presented the fact that, intelligence per se is not the main factor in entering UP? And stated that, the social status plays an important role as well? Didn't you?

Okay then, let's look at this:

"When UPCAT favors the marginalized students from the rural areas over the brighter ones in private schools?"

Sounds familar eh? And just so you know, I didn't miss the point honey, I just presented these facts which could disprove your argument :P

And oh! I didn't say that UP favors the well endowed ones over the others coz, going back you presented the idea of entering in the university by means of "considering ones social status" I for one on the other hand, believed that entering the university basically relies on ones intellectual ability :)))

And yes i have statistics because I did experienced it firsthand... coz you know what? I am a proud GRADUATE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES!!! :)))

      So there,

      ARGUMENT CLOSED!!!! :)))

      God bless you dear :)

Meron nga dyan, quota course ang pinasahan sa UPCAT pero after a year or two, shift naman sa non-quota course kasi di kinaya. I also think in Miss Universe 2012, the contestants have the ideas of the questions to be asked by each judge. Their part is to remember them given the fact that there are several judges.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nangopya talaga agad? Eh napakageneric kaya nung tanong! Duh? Plagiarism is such a huge crime especially in UP. They may have similar answer but Ara has different explanation so it can't be "Sinotto". Isip-isip din.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Her answer was: 'One thing that men can learn from women is how to be sensitive, how to be more compassionate, how not to drown in their own problems, but how to fight to achieve the mental power that women have'

    ReplyDelete
Congruent din yan sa essence of being a woman question.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Baka the set of questions were given to the binibinis beforehand, and what's judged is how the question was answered. Kung eloquent at kung may sense. Apparently, she's done so well in the Q and A. Whether or not recycled, I think that is out of context in the judges' point of view.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  45. we should support sa kanya instead of critizing her. CRAB MENTALITY at its finest!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Why are we so bothered with this issue when her answer is not even the best answer that a Bb. Pilipinas Queen could give. Honestly, I didn't expect her to win and actually, all of them screwed up in Q and A portion. Sabi nga sa ng marami twitter, they're the worst batch in terms of Q and A potion.

    ReplyDelete
  47. eto ang google translation: woman man can learn the sensitivity, or be more humane, not watered down in its own self, the ability to fight us and we have ourselves to mental.. Sino ang hindi nagparaphrase? Grow up people, ang matatalinong tao nagreresearch. PLEAZE!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Geez, some of the commenters should watch Miss Congeniality para magkaroon man lang ng kahit konting idea about beauty pageants.

    ReplyDelete
Dami nagmamagaling dito! Move on na kayo mga vaklush!

    3. This is my argument also. Why did Gloria ask such a question. Very insensitive. Pano kung muslim si girl? Or born again? di ba?

    6. Gloria Diaz have met all the candidates prior to the coronation night. She is well informed of the religions of all 50 contestants, majority of which are Catholic.

  56. Almost all the contestants are under beauty camps who train them extensively specially for the Q&A portion. Ariella Arida is under the beauty camp "Aces and Queens" as well as around 1/3 of the semi-finalists and other contestants all of whom practiced the same very long list of questions. Ara is a chemistry graduate at one of the most reputed school in the country. It is no surprise that her intelligence enabled her to answer a question based on her memory of studying it. Therefore, I wouldn't attribute her win to plain luck but instead, from sheer dedication and hard work.
