Letter from a Reader: The LV Scam - Designer and Sister Team

Dear Fashion PULIS,

I am a fan of your site and I know that you have a huge and solid readership. I have a story that I want to share with your readers and I really hope you can publish this so that more people will be aware.

This is about an aspiring fashion designer named AS and his sister SA. Both are selling LV bags to many people claiming that they are genuine. Everyone seems to trust both siblings, and saying that their aunt, AR works in LV Milan seems to have strengthened their claim on the authenticity of their merchandise.

I have purchased quite a number of bags from them. But it was only recently that I did some research and inspection, and what I found out really shocked me. I can't believe that for the longest time, I had been buying fake LV's all along! I did further investigation and found out that their aunt, AR actually lives in a province, located southeast of Metro Manila. She had never worked for LV. She just lives here in the Philippines, had never left and worked in Milan at all.

I went to LV store in Greenbelt and checked the bags side by side with the authentic ones and the big discrepancies really screamed fake! The stitches, the cuts, the pattern, and a lot more. I really felt so bad for myself and all the people they have sold these items to as not being able to look beyond the obvious. My concern is that this designer, AS and his sister SA, have been selling these fake stuff for a long time already and has sold to so many people. You do the math and you will come to quite a staggering figure. It’s really all illegal business from day one.

I hope this brother and sister tandem will soon be found out, and this conspiracy to be made public and justice will be done. It is such a big scam, FP. It reminds me of the Birkin scandal that you have written about just last year.

Hope you can publish this, FP. Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
Cecil

    1. Mahirap din kasi may mga fake na ang galing ng pagkafake. Kung bibile ka man from ng designer anything, if its a reseller hingin mo ang resibo or kapag gagawin na ang purchase have a store clerk from the designer store check the item first.

  4. At this time, mejo magising na sana yung buying public na wag bumili sa mga ganyan. Buy from the store itself and sa mga respected authorized reseller. Even sa clothes na sabi overruns..i personally think they do not exist.

    1. well, you think wrong. may overruns talaga. lalo na ang polo RL dahil dito ang mga pagawaan ng mga US brands.

    2. yes, may factory and RL dyan sa Pinas. I bought RL shirt here in the US and it's made in the Philippines. But we also know, other people can take advantage of this fact and make imitations that's almost similar, then just claim they're overruns to cover up for the difference compared to authentic.

  6. I'm really sorry dear, but you should not buy LV in a person, you should buy it in the boutique itself. Did you know that kahit kelan never nag sale ang LV and when they didn't able to sell the bags and their stuff they prefer to burn it. So don't trust other people telling that they sell low cost LV bag for some valid reasons. As I said, LV never do a SALE. I'm a LV lover, with my artsy bag and insolite wallet. And before I bought my stuff, I study how to determine authenticity. Kaya kahit wala pa ako noong LV, I already knew if the bag is fake or not in just one look.

Most of the signature purse may stamp, date codes or serial numbers. 14. Sana naman di kailangan mambara if you need to question another person's statement. Yes, wala ng outlet ang LV ngayon. But they USED TO have one sa Woodbury Commons dito sa NY, kung saan meron ding Chanel (na nagsara narin). :)

      Delete
    20. At kelan pa nagka-outlet store ang LV??? This is soooo funny. Tama yung claim na LV doesn't hold SALE's. Kahit pumunta ka pa kahit saang boutique ng LV, they'll tell you that they never had any SALE. The agents told me too that they would rather burn the unsold pieces nga daw. Pero they also claim that the pieces made from their canvas are fire-proof. So pano na nila masusunog yun? Oh well, that's a new topic better discussed in another time. Basta tama yung claims na: 1)NO SALE and 2) walang outlet store ang LV!

That's what they take great pride in na never clang nagka oulet dahil bababa daw ang value nila. Ni wala nga clang store card eh.

  23. i'm a luxury handbag lover and i guess part of the "high" or luxury of these things is when you walk into their store, being able to experience customer service from these high end brands, surrounding yourself with their latest or classic collection in all their glory, choosing what stuff you want to buy, and finally paying for it while you carry your new purchase beautifully wrapped in their paper bag and walking off that establishment with great satisfaction knowing that it couldn't get any more authentic and real than that. i guess, it's really part of what you're paying for, that satisfaction and peace of mind you get which you could never ever have when you don't get your "luxury bag" from the actual store itself.

    ReplyDelete

    1. yup the luxurious in-store feeling is part of what the buyers are paying for. otherwise, it becomes glaringly obviously that you're just buying an overpriced bag.

    1. you're wrong. one of my lv's was purchased through a friend who works for lv in california. he was really nice to get me an lv using his employee discount - without his initials on the bag. unless they have a new policy since it happened five years ago, then you're right. otherwise, i wouldn't buy an lv with someone's initials on the bag.

  52. I can't understand why some won't buy from the store. Is it para "Masabi" lang na may LV kaya papatulan lang if bought cheaper. It doesn't buy class and owning a few items won't make someone sossy. There are others pa who have single pieces of designer bags pero hello naman, nagko-commute or walang own house. Ansabe ng investment?

    ReplyDelete
  53. original LV bags usually come with certificate of authenticity, and its red inside with stitched sign that its made in France. you should have done your homework, asked for a receipt and certificate. if its too cheap, magduda kang its the real thing. wala ka man lang kutob na its a fake?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It won't come with any authenticity certificate. That is a big misconception. Your purchase will just come with a receipt a small paper tag that has the product code (with bar code) of the model/style of the piece, a paper tag that tells the materials used in making the item (english on one side and french on the other - other countries will have other language written there in lieu of english like in japan) and a care booklet. Not all lines have care booklets though.

    2. not all LV pieces have red/raspberry inside. may certain styles that have a red interior either in plain canvas, laminated canvas, cross grain leather or alcantara (microfiber). There are seasonal pieces that carries other materials for the inside. in different colors din syempre. din rin lahat made in france as they have work shops in Spain, Italy, Germany and even in the USA. These workshops should match the first two digits of the date code of each piece mapa bags, wallets, belts or shoes.

  54. hindi nagsi-sale ang LV, at wala silang outlet stores. i believe, sa Japan, me mga boutiques na nagbebenta ng preloved LVs, kaya mura.

but still, para makasigurado, since gagastos na rin lang ng malaki-laki, i prefer na sa mismong LV store na bumili. or magpabili sa trusted relative or friend.

to letter-sender, naka-ilang LV bags ka ng nabili sa kanila before mo napansin na fake? ohwver, sa una pa lang na nabili mong item, di mo napansin na fake?? gano ba naman kasi ka-mura from the Italy/France website price ang benta ni seller? it should not be lower than the price on their Italy/France website. if mas mura dun ang benta, and seller claims it's brand-new, fake na yun sigurado.

  58. LOL Date Code pa lang sobrang give away na. Do your research, yun lang. Some people just want to have an LV bag that's why they buy pre-loved. As for buying from resellers, it works on trust system talaga lalo na't hindi marunong mag-research at bili lang ng bili. Try joining PurseForum. Ang dali mag-judge na "BUMILI NA LANG KASE SA STORE!" but some people love finding deals at hanggat makakamura ka with a genuine article, why not? Again, do your research. At kung di pa din tumalab, malas mo lang.

  63. I feel sorry for you my dear! Nadaya ka nga! I love branded bags..I buy LV and Chanel in their shop here in Dubai! LV and Chanel never have sale at kung hindi saleable ang certain model(LV), they take it back to France to destroy it! And Chanel, especially the classic one, kailangan mong mag antay ng at least a month bago mo makuha!

  64. To all bag lovers like me...pls dont buy online or sa kanikanino lang! Buy it in their shop or boutique! Ang Chanel pag bumili ka dito sa dubai(especially the classic one), may waiting list! Hindi nagproproduce ang Chanel ng maramihan And sa LV nman..any item na out of season or not saleable ibinabalik nila sa France to destroy it! I have a Chanel classic bag na binili ko sa France..sa ikatlong shop ng Chanel sa galleries la fayyette ko nabili. Kya yung mga nasa online ng mga LV at Chanel..those are fake!

    1. Not everything sold online is fake. I am a liquidator for a very well-known luxury department store and my customer return and shelf pull lots include Chanel and other designer purses (Not LV. It is true they incinerate their returns and shelf pulls). To those who would like to buy from 3rd party sellers, I suggest you do your due diligence. The Purse Forum authenticates for free, and you have other authenticators like Etinceler Authentications or CarolDiva. All you need are detailed pictures. Simple steps not to be duped.

  71. i own a couple of LVs and they're still in perfect condition even if they're more than 5 years old. but i stopped using them since a lot of people like to carry them - whether they're authentic or fake. masakit na sa mata especially the monogram and damier logos. i would rather purchase other brands like proenza schouler, YSL, valentino, and celine. and stop buying purses from an individual because more often than not, they're fake. if you can't afford a designer bag, wag magpilit. might as well stick to contemporary ones.

  75. Are you not supposed to report this to the authority? May sangay ba ng gobyerno who handles this kind of scam? Magkano ba bili mo ng mga LV bags na yan? Sorry ha, pero you also volunteered yourself to be a victim. FYI, you can check the prices of LV bags in different parts of the world on their website. Hindi nagse-sale ang LV bags. Kya kung mas mura ang bili mo, MAGTAKA ka, unless it's pre-owned. If you have bought those bags in a much lower price, don't be surprised if it's different from what you can find in REAL LV STORES. Anyway, all of us sometimes do STUPID things. Thanks for sharing. At least, this helps warn other people who are stupid like you.
