Letter from a Reader: Get and Go?

Dear Fashion PULIS,

When a big and popular gym decided to open a branch in Binondo, I was happy as there is no modern and new gym in our area. Upon inquiring, they confidently said that the gym would be operational by Oct 15, 2012 and that their target soft opening was on September 2012. Given that they have three months time, I told myself that would be enough for them to do all the construction-related work and therefore decided to join them 1st of July and paid the corresponding fees.

Came October, I passed by this mall (where they have a booth) and followed up on the status of the opening of the gym. I was told that there were some delays but they promised that it should be operational by mid-November. Came November, I asked and followed up again, and was told by the manning staff that I can start going to the gym by last week of November. Excited, I decided to pass by the area to check on the construction progress and how the gym would look like. To my surprise, the whole area is still covered and construction work seemed to have just started. I spoke to the contractor and was told that their deadline is December 2012.

I went back to the booth and asked for their manager, and the staff explained that by last week of November, the group exercise area will be ready and will be part of their soft opening. I doubted it very much as the said area is still under construction for interior works, wiring and all. I spoke to someone from their head office and all they could do was apologize and offered excuses that there were some problems with licenses and turn over of tenant space.

Apparently, what this gym has been doing is to get more accounts as possible to sign up for them and give false hopes and endless promises as proven by the events unfolding. This is a complete fraud and I wish to warn people not to be fooled by their sales talk. By the way, a refund will take 60 days to process.

Thank you for publishing my letter, Fashion PULIS. This is for everybody's information and hoping everyone will be warned.

Sincerely yours,
Paulo

    2. I thought I was the only one experiencing the same situation. I decided to join them 1st week of july and did some shopping for my work out outfits, but it's already last week of november and there's no text about the progress or status of the said gym. I told my recruiter that I should get discount for I have waited that long for this gym to open. They just said they'll give mrom my previous promo I had avail. I'm frustrated.

    3. Nagtaka nga din ako. Why would you pay for the use of their gym kung di pa ito gawa? virtual exercise??? part ba ng fitness program nila na magbuhat ka ng mga bloke ng semento for the construction of the gym? hehehe.

    1. Subukan mong mag bench press sa Luneta habang tinititigan ka ng mga namumulot ng basura. Kaya nga nag-eenroll sa gym dahil sa equipment tsaka trainer.

    3. The reason Paolo and I (having the same experienxe) availed the said promo is because it is way cheaper compared when the gym is already built. Times 3 the price. I got mine for 14k for 15 months and when it is already operational, the due will increase to 36k for 1 year.

  10. this would have been more useful if the letter sender specified the gym. S/He can warn us about this fraudulent gym but we are kept wondering and guessing the specific gym she complained about.

  17. You will never see this happening in USA!! .. No money down required pre-construction memberships of the said Fitness Gym.... if this is housing okay lang to put your money down!! ... mag isip naman po tayo pa minsan-minsan... to see is to believe, yun lang!!

    1. Sigurado ka jan? Hindi porke't USA eh walang lokohan, in fact mas madami pa nga dun, Hindi lang gym membership madami pang ibang pang gagantso nagagawa doon. Stop condoning things because of the location naman. Pero Mali talaga yung management dun lalo na nageenlist na sila ng members, pano yun, promo na pwede sa ibang branch while dipa gawa yung site w/ no extra cost or t.y. Na lang sa months na binayad mo w/o using their services? Sayang naman yun almost 2k/mo

    2. Yabang mo. Sana mag enroll ka din sa gym at di mo magamit.

  27. I think what happened here is that the Client (Gym) cannot sustain the payment of the construction being done by its contractor; so, to make its monthly(or depending on the tenure) payments, the Client is getting membership fees in advance from its prospective customers. Kung may pera, mapapadali ang final stage ng construction (wiring, interior, etc). mabilis lang din ang handover...

To the letter sender, try mong bawiin na lang ung membership fee, if possible.
