Bayo's Response

Dear Fashion PULIS,

We appreciate your feedback about our most recent ads. With the different variations and suggestions made by the public, we have decided to reveal the rest of the campaign, as a way of shedding more light on the issue.

It was meant to be a three-part series rolled out over the next few months with the intent of celebrating nationality, heritage and personality mix.

Unfortunately, the message got lost along the way. Despite this, we at BAYO, will continue our 20-year tradition of celebrating the diversity and uniqueness of every Filipino.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely Yours,
Lyn Agustin
Vice President, BAYO

  4. Isn't Bayo's first phase version just a reflection of what is considered "social" and/or "cool" in the Philippines? That is to be part foreigner and part Filipino? To speak fluently in some other language than Tagalog? I recently met 2 boys that was born, live and study in the Philippines and yet they do not speak or read Tagalog. I was amazed. How could you not know your own language, ahhhh because the parents thought is was so "social" not to. I am stunned, and sad to know that one refuses or is embarrassed to be heard speaking the language of his/her country.

    1. You could have just use the word classy or sosyal instead. The word "social" is very different from "sosyal."

    2. For someone who is based overseas, i agree that we Filipinos should be good first in our native language then english next

    3. There's nothing wrong with parents teaching their kid english. I think its not for the pasosyal purpose. I think maaaply sya when a kid grows up tapos he/she applies for a job overseas or pag magoopen sya ng business, wala na syang problema about the language and about dealing with international partners.

    4. Foundation ang tawag dun hindi pagiging pasosyal

    5. social o sosyal? you got it all mixed up, man. mag tagalog ka na lang kase.

  5. Im sorry bayo hinde ninyo parin pinag isipan mabuti yung tagline niyo for your product/company. It catches to many people nga but in a negative way naman. Dapat you had a consultation first before niyo lumabas. Major fail.

    3. Really?

  6. Lame excuse. Truth is, their ad copy sucked. They should just scrap this campaign, get some heads rolling and start anew.

  7. Apologies accepted but in hindsight maybe the company should have started with their supposedly SECOND PHASE. As we all know, Filipinos are patriotic people. We love our heritage, our culture, our country. So this maybe an eye-opener for other companies that are thinking of favoring international theme instead of our own. Let's be proud to be Pinoys! Love our own :)

  8. I don't see anything racist about the ad of Bayo. Kung pupuna kayo sa ibang tao siguraduhin nyong hindi kayo guilty of the same crime...

    1. Onga e. Other people reeks of negativity.

    3. i guess one thing that made this an issue is that bayo blatantly said what other ads can only imply. look everywhere...commercials of the brands we wear, magazines we read, even our favorite shows exalt the tisays. ANG RESULTA, ANG DAMING IPOKRITO crying foul over bayo's campaign when they are being “unpatriotic” unconsciously by idolizing anne/marian/whoever fair-complexioned half-breed they see on TV, using whitening products, and wearing brands that promote white supremacy.

before we judge this “racist and unpatriotic” campaign, we should evaluate ourselves first kung nationalistic ba talaga tayo.

    4. ^ you're absolutely right! I salute bayo for this campaign.

The damage was done. Inamin na na nagkamali na. Ginawan na ng paraan. Pwede bang mag-move on na tayo. Nakakastress

    1. Tanggalin man ng bayo or baguhin ang ad, di sya tatangapin ng iba kasi nalason "ata" ng ugaling squa yung iba dito.

Bayo cant please everyone. Pag tatangalin nila baka sabihin ng mga ugaling squa na they're running away from the controversies.

  10. DOn't see anythng wrong in the campaign.

  11. I dont see anything wrong with the ad. I have 2 kids that are half and half and they dont mind at all. I tell them that they have the best of both worlds. Some people are just way too sensitive na wala naman sa lugar. Learn to develop some self esteem para maging masaya ang buhay ninyo.

  12. The ad was badly written period. Not to mention it used too many words. So it's not a matter of their message being lost in translation. It was badly written to the point that their message was skewed in prose, hence when it reached public nagkagulo.

    1. true!

    3. Well BAYO should be sarcastic! Yan ang hirap satin mga Filipino we take everything literaly. I dont think those adds re dscrminating! It doesnt matter kung pilit ang pgsorry ni Bayo atleast they did and I dont think Bayo should apologize. Well maybe its better for us to.just support them rather than pulling then down.

  14. lame excuse...anong second phase pinagsasasabi e...e ilang versions na naman yung nilabas nila...may 60% 40% pa silang nalalaman...just admit that it was poorly researched, poorly written, badly executed...fire their ad agency..or baka naman inhouse nila kasi may nagmamagaling

    1. Parang ikaw lang nagmamagaling din

  15. would the people react the same way kung inuna nila yun Phase 2 then yun Phase 1? baka di ganyan ang impact :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Eh ano ba talaga gusto mo?

      Delete
    2. Ah eh, hello... We ARE divided by regions, and every region has a specific characteristic that Bayo is trying to emphasize. That's the point of the ad, hindi ung "regionalism".

      Delete
Good luck, ha!

  17. Una, wala namang 100% Pinoy, lahat talaga "mixed" of different races (Chinese, Spanish, American, Malay, etc.)... Hello ??? Phil. History??? Kung meron man, eto yun mga katutubo natin... 2nd I think the ad is tastefully done with the intent to show that whoever you are, whatever "mix" you have, BAYO accepts you...Parang United Colors of Benetton lang dati, or the campaign of Body Shop. For me, this does not in any way malign our patriotism, neither promote racism. It's a fact of life, executed on an ad copy/layout that was creatively written. I can sense that the bashers of this ad are not the target markets of BAYO...or maybe it stemmed from a "mad" competitor... Naiinggit sila dahil di kailangan magbayad ng Bayo ng mga Hollywood superstars and yet they can get their message accross... O well, just a thought... I am marketing person of an FMCG product and it happens...

    2. You are talking about descent my dear. Dont confuse being biracial to percentages of descent. (Meaning having percentages of different ethnicity, kung baga may lahi lang) Jasmin Curtis is biracial, shes not like you and me or every Pinoy na may iba ibang lahi lang, magkaiba yon. This ad is subliminally sending the message na mas cool or maganda ka kung half ka. They do not represent filipinos, hindi naman ganyan ang itsura natin eh de sana lahat tayo solenn heussaff.

  18. their point, sabi nila, was mixing of clothes di ba?

    so sana yun na lang.

    ReplyDelete
  19. bayo was trying to redeem their first ad- pero what is the reason pa? Eh hindi na nga maganda yung una to begin with- parang naging pilit na may regionalism pa sila.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Mere palusot. If this is true, they should have done this in reverse.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I for one didn't mind the ad. I did stop buying from Bayo when they got KC as image model. I just dislike her. But I used to buy their stuff when Lea represented the brand. I hope Bayo brings her back, or maybe tap someone on the same level as Lea, who is world-class.

  22. When I saw another article about this from a news website and how it got a lot of negative feedback from netizens, I had to roll my eyes at it. I even tweeted about it last night, out of a dire need to express just how ridiculous it was:

"It's not Bayo's campaign that's defective, but the mentality (at least of the common majority) of the society they're trying to cater to. There's no such thing as '100% Filipino'--Our creed may be as one, but our pedigree is, essentially, mixed. Of course the campaign will be taken out of context since not many of us understand that diversity is parallel to survival. Bayo should not apologize for their campaign; it's about time we Pinoys come out of the 16th century and stop nitpicking about everything."

Unfortunately I forgot to mention about "foresight" in advertising, but whatevs.

    1. Did you read the whole thing? I think you rolled your eyes too soon that's why you didn't understand the whole context of the ad's message and where the offense is coming from. Your point is irrelative despite you trying your best to articulate yourself intelligently... you still missed the point. Foresight in advertising? I wouldnt trust anybody who says things like 'whatevs' to know anything about advertising. Read more articles and copy and paste them, amateur.
