What TV Viewers Missed in the Q&A Portion

During the Q&A portion, the contestants appeared to have better answers than in the previous contests. It seemed that the contestants were given the questions beforehand so they could better prepare. Perhaps, the organizers were trying to avoid moments when contestants could not give answers out of nervousness or inability to understand the question. However, there were scenes that were edited out prior to the airing on TV. Here are some of them:

Candidate A was asked by one of the foreign judges her definition of happiness. She began by describing the Philippines. Of course, everyone, from the host to the judges to the madame organizer (M), was stunned. M and the other BPCI members signalled for a repeat. The foreign judge asked the question again. After apologizing, A was able to answer the question.

Candidate B projected confidence prior to being asked. She even sang a Spanish song before answering but this was not shown on air anymore. Her question was about social media. After her first statement, the audience waited and waited and waited for the next sentence. The first and second rings sounded but B said no more. Again, M asked for a repeat. In the second attempt, B was able to answer but it was not a brilliant one. Still, B ended among the winners. This verdict left the coliseum audience asking why she even got a place given her inability to answer.

Candidate C was asked how she could show the rest of the world why it was more fun in the Philippines. By this time, the audience were already shouting as they were still recovering from the initial answer of A. C was able to answer but her effort did not land her any place.

Not airing these actual scenes deprived the TV audience from seeing how the contestants were unable to withstand the pressure of the Q&A (and how they could have recovered from it). More importantly, these edited scenes spared the contestants from gaining fame via viral videos poking fun at their miscues.

  1. candidate A - #16 yung taga-Batanes
    candidate B - #29
candidate C - #26 though she had a great answer, naturn off naman ako sa kanyang kadaldalalan. she grabbed every opportunity to talk before being asked by the judge. kaloka!

    1. I was there...in fairness to #16, she answered spontaneously and confidently despite hearing the question wrong and when the right q was repeated she answered with the same conviction...she really showed poise and confidence...unlike the 29 gurl who faltered and stumped, she just stood there almost as if she wanted to say she wants to quit, she really looked very scared...it was really unfair for the other girls who answered so much better and who looked so much better like the number 30 gurl...she should resign.

  2. agree! Candidate C gave a very good answer and yet her effort was not appreciated nor given credit. If my memory does not fail me, she was the registered nurse.

    2. I even thought she would win when she wasn't called and there was only one title to be announced. She may not be physically the most stunning, but the wit confidence and content whenever she speaks should've been recognized!

    3. I think the editing part was the idea of BPCI. After all, sa kanila ang pageant. Everything else was run by BPCI, Madam Stella in particular.

The fact that Madam ordered to repeat the Q&A of some contestants showed that she runs the show and she did not want her girls to become the laughing stock of many. Hence she requested ABS to edit out some portions before airing.

If ABS did the editing on its own without the approval of BPCI, for sure Madam will not take it quietly.

    4. Pero ganyan talaga ang ABS, part ng corporate strategy ang mag-cover up even sa mga celebrities nilang naba-blind item.

  14. bb. pilipinas 2011 is well rehearsed, un mga questions binigay sakanila and bahala na silang sumagot and during the q&a, bubunot na lang sila. unlike this year, na hindi nila alam un tanong! i think abs cbn edited na rin kasi un isang contestant which is b, the crowd booed her, okay lang kung d na cinut yon scene na yon kasi baka masuicide un candidate at wala na siyang mukhang maiharap!

    ReplyDelete
  15. most of the titleholders and winners ng bb.pilipinas ay hindi sila ang nakakuha ng highest score, right after ng q&a may deliberation and judges with stella marquez and siyempre yon bet ni stella, siya ang ipapanalo ng management! so dapat talaga palitan na si stella marquez para fair,. and janine tugonon ay favorite ni stella marquez.

  19. How could that happen when it was broadcasted live?

    1. It wasn't live. The broadcast was a few minutes behind.

    2. I watched live. It was not just a few minutes delayed. The actual show started 8pm. I heard the broadcast started 9:30? The Q&A portion was just cringe worthy. The social media contestant shouldntve landed a place at all. Im sorry. I didnt boo her like almost 80% of the audience did. But i resent the fct that she placed and that the q&a was edited! Those who didnt watch live tuloy didnt see how unfair it was that she placed.

IMO, by editing out the scenes, she was given an unfair advantage by the directors or whoever was responsible for the decision to do the editing.

  20. No. 26 was annoyingly talkative. I was cheering for her until she opened her mouth and wouldn't shut up. Thank goodness she didn't place. No. 29 looks like Patricia Javier, which means she doesn't look great at all. Too bad she has a placement.

  22. Hay naku, sa 2 lahat scripted...

  23. do you have proof of this? No amateur videos popped up with all the cellphone cameras there. So I doubt the authenticity of this BI

I also adore the beauty of the new Ms universe pero yung ms tourism and Ms international grabe !!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. By the Ms. Universe mention that they are accepting Transgender at di mga mukhang bakla .

  27. Coming from a reliable source (ABS official) everything was indeed rehearsed before hand. All of the questions were made by BPCI officials and none of it actually came from the judges. All 20 questions instead of 12 for the 12 finalists were given to the 30 candidates, a day right after the talent night, for them to review and come out with the best possible answers they can deliver. What's your opinion on this.. Acceptable or not? Please justify..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. leaked questions and pre-rehearsed answers? not cool. this tack may have succeeded in making the candidates and the organizers look good on TV, but it will never fly in an international pageant like Miss U, where candidates must be able to give spontaneous and intelligent answers without losing their poise. sa Q&A pa naman tayo laging nadadapa. @__@ (IMO between miriam, shamsey and venus, i thought shamcey did very well in last year's Q&A, even though her answer was not the popular one; venus on the other hand completely flubbed it.)

beauty pageant Q&As should always go unrehearsed. how else can the judges weed out the janina san miguels, and pick someone who actually stands a chance in an international contest?

  28. in my opinion, baklang bakla kasi ung sagot ni #26..sa ms gay dapat sya sumali. witty, yes..but cheap. though she is pretty

    ReplyDelete
Atsaka veteran na pala sya...1st runner up pala sya last year tapos sumali ulit...hindi happy na nanalo sya last year. Goodluck na lang sa kanya. Maganda yung Lastimosa. Sayang hindi nanalo.

May kakilala kasi akong gumagawa ng gowns chika nya evern before the competition started may nakaappoint ng winner.. Kaloka dba? :)

  33. uhmm, regarding sa cover up, ABS CBN is the media partner. They did the editing but of course may go signal yan nang organizers which is the BPCI headed by Stella Araneta. BAkit Abs Cbn pinag iinitan?

  35. I thought the Miss World Philippines contestants were all unbelievably smart. my expectation was really high with the candidates but as it turned out I was gravely consternated by their answers.
Funniest would be the Social Networking question na napunta kay Mother Teresa. Classic!

  36. Let's wait and see what the end results of the competition will be. Kayo naman, puro pintas tapos pag nanalo or naka place, proud to be Pinoy and drama nyo. At kung may editing na nangyari, it's no big deal. You can judge all you like but still your vote does not count. Kung hindi inedit I'm sure never ending pintas ang kasunod....it is a beauty contest after all. Kung sana meron Beauty and Brains contest, I'm sure panalo ang mga Beki kasi hindi kailangan mag rehearse dahil NATURELLE sa kanila ang wit and talent. YON lang!

  40. This may not relate to the BI, but I highly commend the Congresswoman who was one of the judges as well on the pageant by giving #14 an option to choose language she was comfortable with on answering her question. She even translated the question to Filipino. But UNFORTUNATELY, the contestant choose to answer it in english but unable to give justice on it... :/

    ReplyDelete

    1. true.. i dont see anything wrong in saying it in vernacular.. i mean venezuela, mexico and some Miss Universe winners need translators.. im not saying filipinos or filipinas are dumb or cant think on their toes.. but come to think of it, its waaay too easier to express yourself and say what you want in filipino.. less nerves.. IMO.. c:

  41. I also watched it live. And these are all true. This only shows that this pageant is rigged. I like the idea of giving another chance to anyone who has faltered but then again, this is a contest. One contestant also revealed that this M would go backstage and checked her bets if they were all ok. So unfair!
