Letter from a Reader: Not an Amiable Place

Dear Fashion PULIS,

Let me share our unfortunate incident in paradise with you and your readers. I hope this serves as a warning to all your readers.

Upon arrival, our group saw a placard having the name of the guests held by the driver of this resort. The group was informed that the transfer was part of our package and that we should ride with him. The group cancelled its pre-arranged booking with a certain transport company and opted for a more comfortable ride with the resort driver. The European owner even went to pick up the group at the jetty port.

While asking the front desk about additional charges for transfers to Kalibo en route to Manila, the European owner told the group to pay for the earlier transfers. To cut the long story short, the resort staff made a mistake and even apologized over the phone and sent the organizer of the group an apology letter stating that they will waive all transport fees due to the miscommunication.

At the end of the trip, after settling the bill consisting of accomodation, food, massages, bar expenses, etc.- which amounted to more than 300,000 pesos, the owner demanded the group to pay the one way transfers amounting to less than 10,000 pesos. After a long, heated argument, explaining to him that it was his transport staffs fault, he let the group leave his resort right away. Pointing to the door, he said, "Thank you for cheating me a few thousands" the European owner said in front of his staff, other guests, and the kids.

The group gave them good business and he opted to be rude and unprofessional to his customers. By the way, he also reprimanded the kids for running around the beach with the resort's beach towels. We also noticed that he seemed friendlier to his American and European guests. Call it discrimination?

Lastly, 5 people in our group were food poisoned after eating in this resort's restaurant. How bad can it get?

Yours truly,
Ann C.

  16. Akala ko A P resort na uber expensive

    ReplyDelete
  17. 300,000?! really?? haha nag europe nalang sana kayo!

    ReplyDelete
  18. It is the resort beside discovery shores. Akala ni European owner, since he is beside the posh resort, siya rin can demand. A is a brand of hotel, bed and is a title given to people.

    ReplyDelete
Mashadong malaki ang 300k for that.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sa station 1 near discovery shores Ito not the in station 3... I've heard horrible stories about this European owner.. Super bad bad! Dami din negative reviews to sa tripadvisor.com To think, he's doing business in thephilippines, tapos Ganyan sya sa Mga pinoy?

    ReplyDelete

  29. my bro. is a classmeyt of the victims....the german owner of this resort in the island paradise really sucks daw...doesnt care if there are other tourist watching them....the Clue is in the title!

Tama ba fp??

    ReplyDelete
  31. Its a shocking for me to hear this.. This hotel was even featured in one of the late tv programs. I dont believe that this is discrimination. I believe the owner is Dutch and happens to have a filipina wife with wOnderful adorable kids. Base from my experience as one of their guest, I gave this hotel my thumbs up. First, it never allows beach parties unlike its neighbor, secondly, even if we werent a hotel guest, they allow my kids to swim in their pool. They have a 24hour room service and huge, clean rooms. Maybe its best to check tripadvisor to weigh everything before making a conclusion. Im a filipina btw so I dont think its discrimination. You are in a wrong place at the wrong time.

For a resort at station1 mejo chaka ang resort na to. Echos lang sa name.

  41. Put the review under its hotel name in Agoda website too, para mabasa ng mga tao ang experience ninyo.

    ReplyDelete
  60. diplomat nasa paraiso, station 1 resort-check nyo reviews sa trip advisor-the letter actually posted the story there

    ReplyDelete
  61. Ah historian piazza! talaga?!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yes I agree with one of the comments above, that the complaint should also be posted in the trip advisor website, to warn potential travelers researching on this resort.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  64. I stayed there n experiences the SAME racism! I was invisible the other white guests were not. Shame on the owner!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Tthe owner shoudnt have shouted at the guests!

  69. We stayed at this hotel recently and we had a good experience. Did not see the owner so i can't say anything about him. But if that incident happened to me, i would not let it slide like that. Post a review on tripadvisor.

    ReplyDelete
  70. i've met the owner and his filipina wife... the wife is chatty and nice but the foreigner owner is really discriminating! with the way he looked at us and even the other filipinos there (guests and staff alike) in his resort it's as if you're out to cheat or steal from him... but staff wise they are so nice! it's just sad that the owner spoils the whole experience of staying in his resort....

    ReplyDelete
  71. Ano ba yang nag guess ng A___Pulo? Sure na sure, pa, ano ba!! Since when napunta ang Kalibo sa Palawan??? PEACE!

    ReplyDelete
  72. useless complaint... again, what´s the name of the resort. so how could we warned if we do not know the name of the resort anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  73. FP, sure ka owner mismo? Hindi GM? If you are talking about the AP I know it's just one of a chain of resorts owned by a big company. They have a Fil partner company/family but the owners of the mother corp are never here.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Grabe yung manager na yan, ha. That's not the way to treat guests. Especially, guests who cough up loads of money to pay for their shitty service.

Anyway, can someone put up more clues kung ano talaga yang hotel na yan? I cannot find it in Tripadvisor (I'm not sure if the incident is really posted there already).

    ReplyDelete
  75. echuserong owner to ah!!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. di ko nagets ung transfer transfer issue. i-edit mo FP, pretty please to make it na madaling intindihin ang kwento ni atey... :))

    ReplyDelete
  78. Eh ano naman pakialam niyo if they spent 300k. They were a big group and obviously can very well afford it (nag stay na sila sa Discovery Shores which is also a pricey resort). The point is, that Dutch owner was rude, wag nang tangkilikin ang resort niya.

    ReplyDelete
  79. FP! I'm a silent follower...I never posted any comment but I always read your blog...my heart goes out to the family who wanted to have a FUN vacation in Boracay...I can't believe the way the owner treated them! They are clients of this resort and they should be treated with respect! I will never ever support this establishment EVER!!! The owner will never be an AMBASSADOR !!!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  81. Oh my God ! let's not support this establishment ! I read tripadvisor and I got all the details...I will never ever recommend this place...I work in a travel agency...the owner lost a LOT of business!!! I hope he'll learn his lesson...

    ReplyDelete
  82. AP ? Asar sa PINOY itong resort na ito!

    Huwag natin suportahan!!!

    ReplyDelete

GET OUT OF OUR COUNTRY!!!! ( sabay turo sa dagat! )

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  87. Kalurky to day! Kaya dapat support your own tayo!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Confirmed, not Palawan. It's in station 1.
Funny thing is that the name of the hotel is parallel to the word diplomat which is the opposite of what this foreigner did.
    One can never buy class...

    ReplyDelete
  91. it's not the posh resort in station 3 for sure. that's owned by a very rich filipino tycoon. maybe the one is station 1 pa.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  94. Si station 1 AP nga to dahil "diplomatic" daw. Tsk tsk. Magagalit ang "embassy" nyan

    ReplyDelete
  95. Nabasa ko na ang buong istorya sa Trip Advisory at Facebook, 20+ na tao ang nag stay sa resort na ito kasama na ang mga bata na edad from 2-11 and ibang couple ay nag babakasyon galing abroad and this will be their first New year together as a complete Family after 14 years. Dumating ang grupo sa resort and enjoy each other Company's hanggang bagon taon. The night b4 sila mag check out ay nag inquire yung grupo ng service papuntant Kalibo, dito na sila siningil ng isa sa mga staff sa transportation from the Airport to the resort. Nag explain ang grupo na confirmed nila na kasama na sa package yung transportation at nag apologize yung Front desk and followed by a formal letter and signed. Since na mataas ang service fee na binigay sa kanila ng resort papuntant Kalibo eh nag hanap sila ng 3rd party to provide them the service for half price. The day of the check out habang nag hihintay ang lahat sa lobby, yung Owner ay lumapit sa grupo at nag sabi na bayaran daw siya sa service na binigay niya sa grupo since he paid people for that service and other enviromental fees. The group explained their side and opted that it was a mistake or mis communication ng staff niya. The owner immediately showed the group the door and asked to leave the premises ASAP and quoted that the group cheated him of a few thousand kahit na they just spent more P300K on hotel bills.

Tama ba ang naging reaction ng owner ang tratuhin niya ng ganun ang guest niya at palayasin sa hotel infront of the kids and his staff? Sino ba ang nag sabi sa kanya na pickupin ang grupo sa airport? is this an act of opportunism? Bakit ang mag staff niya eh isang pasabi lang ng mga foreigner eh sunod kaagad at madalas pa na sila ang lumalapit para tanungin kung anong gusto nila while this kind of hospitality was missing sa grupo na ito. Bakit kailangan mong mag asked ng 3 times for a glass of water? or other things that they will offer to a foreigner?

At the end of the day, its the resort who will eventually suffer dahil ang Pinoy ay di mag papatalo sa mga dayuhan na nag hahari harian sa sarili nating bayan.

  96. Ann C. is a good friend of mine...she's a mom, wife, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, and a TOUR guide to the family...all they want is to have a great New Year celebration in Boracay...what did they get? Problems with the transfers, RUDE treatment by no less than the owner of the resort, poor service by the staff, and diarrhea from eating at the resort! I can't blame her for getting upset from this experience...she just wants to WARN the public from this place...

    ReplyDelete
  97. Naku FP coincidence naman itong post mo nato, I was booked dyan sa "A" for Chinese New Year ang daming arte, lahat ng itanong ko itinurn down ang mahal mahal na nga ng rate, so I cancelled, I won't give them business noh, dami ng magandang hotel ngayon sa paradise para magmalaki pa sila.. i-boycott ang place na yan kung ganun pala sila I thought natapat lang ako sa supladitang reservation officer hindi pala..

  98. I don't think that this is the world class island resort "AP" in pamalican Island. I as a 4th time guess of this island experienced a well pampered service by the crews and staffs even the friendly manager welcomes me with flowers , fruits and cold drinks with a sweet smile upon arrival. They even manage to send me greeting cards in every occasions.
I bet this is somewhere in Kalibo Aklan. :)
