Letter from a Reader: Traumatic Online Shoe Shopping Experience

The pair advertised on her site

The pair I received

Dear Fashion Pulis,

I would like to share my bad experience with you and your readers regarding an online shopping vendor in Facebook. The vendor’s name is HOHH run by Miss RL.

Last week I inquired about a pair of shoes that I really liked and so I reserved a pair in my size. Friday (August 19, 2011) came and I was supposed to deposit the money in her account before she ships the goods but I wanted to get a hold of the shoes right away so I inquired if I may just send someone to pick it up and give her the payment personally. She agreed without hesitation so at about 5:30 pm last Friday, I asked my staff to bring the payment to Miss RL's condo somewhere in Roxas Boulevard and to pick up the shoes that I ordered from the lobby of the condo. I was so excited when my staff came back. I wasted no time and opened the package right away. To my dismay, the right pair was damaged, and this was the start of my nightmare with this shoe vendor.

I called Miss RL right away to inform her that I received a defective pair and if she can kindly replace it. She said that she double checks all items and that it was not damaged when she left it with the guard at the lobby of her condo. I said that my staff did not open the package when he got it because it was sealed and I only opened it when 30 minutes after I received the package. I opened it in front of my staff and we both noticed the discoloration of the right pair. Miss RL then instructed me to just return the shoes and that she will look at it first. I requested her to just replace it with another pair and I will send the damaged pair right away.

When my staff arrived at her place, she took the shoes and instructed my staff to just go back for the shoes the following day. She did not replace nor hand my staff back the payment. I specifically asked my staff to have the damaged pair replaced or just get the payment back. Since she didn’t give the payment back and asked us to just come back for the shoes the following day with no receipt or proof of claim I decided to call her again and requested her to return the payment instead because it is already causing too much trouble on my end. Since she would not replace it right away, she agreed that she will just give the money back to my staff.

After more than 30 minutes, I called my staff and he said that Miss RL still has not handed him the money yet. I called Miss RL again to ask about the cause of delay and she irately replied, “Nire-repair pa namin yung shoes, hindi pwede madaliin.” I did not request her to repair it, I specifically requested her to replace it or just give back the payment. Why would I want to buy a defective pair of shoes? She decided to repair it without asking for my permission.

I called my staff again and told him to wait a little longer but not to accept the shoes if the right pair still looks damaged. All the while I was calling her for feedback but she would not answer my calls. When she finally answered my call, she told me “Tapos na” so I then answered “Salamat naman…” She dropped the call even before I could finish my sentence.

After 15 minutes, I called my staff again asking him if he has the shoes. He told me that he has not received the shoes. I kept calling Miss RL's cell refused to answer my calls. A few more minutes later, she finally handed the shoes to my staff.

When my staff noticed that the damage was worse when Miss RL handed her the shoes, he told her “Ma’am ang sabi po ni Ms. Lisa huwag ko daw po tatanggapin kung damaged pa rin”. Miss RL abruptly told my staff “Basta ipakita mo muna yan sa amo mo no!” My staff informed me Miss RL was upset when he would not accept the shoes so she kept asking him “May problema ka ba? May problema ka yata e?” My staff so so scared so he replied “Mam, wala po” and left hurriedly.

The damaged part of the right shoe had worsen when I saw it so I messaged her on Facebook. I told her that I did not like her attitude and that she shouldn’t shortchange people. We exchanged text messages and she said in one of her text that I can choose from the other available styles. The problem was that was the only style I liked in her collection and now I am being forced to choose another style? Since she could not replace the defective pair with a new one, she should just offer to give back the payment.

I have learned a valuable lesson from this horrible experience. I should have asked my staff to check the condition of the goods first before giving the payment. I was actually tempted to send her back the pair of damaged shoes without getting the payment back but I did not. How I wish I could throw the shoes back at her but even my staff refused to go back to her place because he was traumatized by Miss RL.

I am presently using the defective shoes that I bought from her. Why? It has become a conversational piece and I will not be tired of sharing my bad experience with the shoe vendor.

Thank you Fashion Pulis for allowing me to share this experience. I hope that this will serve as a lesson to all the people who love shopping online. Please be careful with the people you transact with. Also, do not hesitate to share your experiences to others so that they will not go through the same unpleasant experience.

Sincerely,
Lisa Dy

  2. Sana si letter sender nalang nag balik ng shoes. Mahirap kasi pag ibang tao inutusan mu e ganyan talaga mangyayari. At least pag ikaw personally kumuha no choice sya kundi irefund pera mu.

  3. WOW i really love those print :) but why in actual its look like pale?
I love shopping online through facebook and as of i dont have such a bad experience(hope no in the future).

  4. Hay somewhat same experience to me. Bought two pcs of vintage shirts from a multiply site and when i got the package to my dismay may butas butas sa right shoulder ang shirts. Yung parang kinagat ng daga. Informed the seller and she just told me she double checks all her products and that it was part of the design. Hahaha part of the design daw.
Didnt want to argue anymore And let it be an stress on my life so i just let it pass. Karma n lang niya yun.

I use the shirts every now and then as pantulog. Hahaha

  5. seems to me you would have been better off if you bought a pair from divisoria or other flea markets. That's why I don't buy clothes online, i have to see how they fit and look on me before I buy.

  6. parang ginamit na yun shoes ng ilan taon..

  7. What's her fb acct? Thanks :)

  8. Wow that sucks - for lack of better words. That's why I'm hesitant to buy from Facebook or Multiply, they have less protection than ebay. At least with ebay you can leave a negative feedback or view the seller's feedbacks before buying. But I kind of understand how that wouldn't matter if you really wanted a certain item lol. Lesson learned, hope the shoes were not that expensive.

  9. I used to buy from from FB sellers... But one time when I bought something, I had to wait for weeks coz it had to be shipped pa and when I got the merchandise, it was a poor imitation of the photo they posted... it was too much of a hassle to have it returned (the seller was in another region) so ever since I stopped buying online coz you can't check out the actual material/item before paying...

  10. Why didn't you go after all the craziness and demanded for your money back or new pair?

  11. Dear Lisa,

Making this expose with FP can be helpful but it will just remain at that: just an expose. You should handle this legally. Consult a lawyer to demand a refund.

    XOXO

    Dear FP,

    Please post this.

  17. you shouldn't have allowed yourself to be trampled on by that woman. don't be a whimp when it comes to people like these, kaya they get away with it! i would've personally gone to her condo & demanded my money back. madaling lusutin kasi staff lang ang kausap niya kaya naiintimidate. that happened already to me when i let my driver handle something, they were taking advantage of the situation but when i stepped in na, hindi na sila makahirit. never ever let yourself get shortchanged or taken advantage of. you should've demanded your money back or exchange nalang because you bought the shoes in good faith that they looked exactly like the picture and she didn't declare the flaws. i am also an online seller and i always declare all flaws if any. that's misrepresentation of goods kasi. BAD GIRL SIYA.

  18. Apparently, clients have been complaining as early as Feb of this year. Why do filipinos even fil chi have a no return no exchange policy despite dti laws!

  19. Pls share with us name of that FB shopping site so your readers will stay clear of them. That site gives on-line shopping a bad name!

  20. Can you please name the online shop already so that we are all forewarned? - Tosh

  21. This is why I don't easily trust seller from FB and even Multiply. I swear, I will just buy from people that I personally know!

  22. All that hassle for a pair of shoes that could've been bought even from SM Parisian. Haaayyy!!! Not worth it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. The problem with online shopping: (1) you can't try on or inspect the items for quality, you have to pay for them first before you can actually hold them; (2) and if you have issues on the quality, online shopping is not covered by "no return no exchange" policy, thus you'll have a hard time getting a good deal post-sale. I guess DTI should look into these online shopping vendors. Buyers are always and definitely on the losing end.

  24. pangit ugali ng seller.. wc seller ito sa facebook? bumibili pa naman ako doo.

    ReplyDelete
  25. omg. She said that to your staff? wow ha! siya pa galit! tama yan you should demand for a refund or not replace a new item. uhmm... HOH is the name of the online store?!? parang friend ko siya sa fb account ko ha... she has lots of clients na rin pero bakit ito nangyari sayo? binigay sayo sira! how annoying!

  26. This is why buying stuff from Facebook is not recommended especially if its not "kaliwaan ang bayad". I've always preferred Ebay where there's buyer protection.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hassle! That's probably 2nd hand already! Tip to online buyers: when buying items online, make sure to ask for the product's ACTUAL PHOTO before you send your payment.
Lalo na ung mga nag iimport from Korea, sobrang layo ng actual clothes from the "brochure pictures" that they advertise on their accounts.

Hassle niyan. I suggest you check out High Style Fancy, tested seller na yan.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Mahirap talagang bumili online. Dapat super trusted ang seller. Tsaka do not expect that you'd get a pair very similar to what is shown in their photos kasi photoshopped na yun (inayos na yung kulay, print, etc). I buy online too pero never pa akong nadisappoint. Buy from trusted sellers. Yun lang ang masasabi ko. Kabwiset yang seller na yan ha.

  29. to MS.RL, wag ka magnegosyo kung antipatika ka masyado sa customer mo. always remember, customer is king. okay?

  30. Despite the bad treatment you received from this vendor, you still use the shoes?! If I were you, I won't settle and would definitely demand for a refund. If the vendor refuses, I'll file a complaint with the DTI.

  31. HOY MISS RL ! SANA MAKARMA KA !!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. ewwww mukang gamit na ung shoes nung pinadala....ang hirap talaga mag-hanap ng credible online sellers today...

    ReplyDelete
  33. please file a complaint with the DTI. ang kakapal ng mga yan na balasubas mag-negosyo. wla nga silang permit magbenta at di pa yan nagbabayad ng taxes. tignan lang natin ano gagawin nya pg hinabol sya ng BIR. mapapalaki pa gastos nya sa pagbribe sa mga yun dahil mas buwaya yun sa kanya.

@fashionpulis: you are doing a public service. keep it up! ignore the freaks who say crap about you, inggit lng sya kasi unano sya.

  34. bad, bad , bad RL. i think she is not one of the serious online sellers. every business owners know the ethics in dealing with customers. well, i guess marami pa ring naglipana na katulad nya sa tabi-tabi. readers...you are forewarned! extra care please.

  48. Ang hihina naman ng kokote! Sinabi nang HOHH ang name ng store, kung ano meaning kayo na ang mag search since di nga pwede to name the actual person! On my part I have ordered na sa kanya. May store ata siya sa Rockwell? Di ko alam kasi parang dinig ko dati may mga nakaaway siya na tao & talking trash about her. I also know sikat siya in a sense na sa kanya kumukuha ng shoes ang mga mga ibang artista na friend nya sa FB.

  49. Dear all,
Thank you for your suggestins and advices. I wasn't able to make gyera personally cause I was busy with work and had no time to shop. The shoes was not at all cheap - considering it was on sale, it's still a bit pricey. I cannot name her because it's not allowed to name names here but somebody along the thread already mentioned her FB account name. One day I will meet her and that's not too far along cause i just found out that we have a mutual friend.....

  52. It's really convenient to shop online for people like me who, aside from living in the province with no nearby malls (until recently, which is actually in the neighboring town pa 45 mins away), has actually NO TIME to go to the malls.

But then again, online shopping is a gamble kasi. You don't know if it fits, you don't know it it'll look good on you. Still you buy it because you like it.

Anyway, Multiply now has this buyer protection thing. So better look for it in online shops so at least assured ka na hindi ka maloloko.

  53. oh yeah, may stall sa rockwell na nakadisplay ibang heels niya. nakiki-display siya. hindi sa kanya yun store.. may makukuha din kayong calling card niya dun, nakakalat around her heels.

  63. TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA ..

Sissies alam niyo ba sa 168 Divisoria may mga killer heels sold by Koreans na mukang binebenta sa malls but with a cheaper price??

Sa online shop kasi kaya mahal ay dahil iniimport pa from China or Korea ... kaya pre order dahil naghihintay pa ng ibang kasabay na order para makatipid sa shipment...

I have observed them myself... the shoes from the pictures on those online shops are available there with prices ranging from 400-900 pesos only... my friends and I have already tested the quality of the shoes there ;P
