Letter from a Reader: A Cockroach in My Drink

Dear Fashion PULIS,

I am sending you this photo to inform you and your readers that you have to pay attention to what you eat or drink. I have already consumed more than half of the drink when I noticed that there was a cockroach in my drink. It was really very disgusting! I literally felt like throwing up when I saw it.

To make things worse, when I complained to the lady at the counter, she simply ignored me. Although I believe that they had nothing to do with the insect in my drink, the least she could have done was to apologize and offer to replace it.

Anyway, my objective for sending this photo is to warn you guys to be more careful when you are eating or drinking something. Sometime when we are having a good time with our friends we tend to talk too much and not pay attention to what we put in our mouth.

Yours trully,
Miss HL

  4. kaya pala maraming addict sa drink na yan, may "secret ingredient" pala

  5. I guess you wont be happy after all. yikes.

  6. Ireklamo mo rin ito kay basketbolista! his one of the owners. Gawd. this so very disgusting talaga! :( Kadire.

  7. What? Totoo ba ito? Fave ko Pa naman yan.

  8. Darn! I buy from there a lot of times!!! Damn.

  9. Aww, kadiri naman. I think C is one of the owners. Hmmm, tweet him kaya? Saang branch yan? Sana naman nagsorry man lang sila.

  10. It Looks like that you put it there :) No offense pero bket dami pa SAGO? n the Sago did you put them all in the center??? so we can clearly see the Ipis?

  11. It may be planted to me.. seems to be the same cockroach on 2 different drinks..But what do I know? hehe

Still not a good way to handle a complaint. Regardless if planted or not, they should have apologized and changed the drink.

  12. Hindi naman ganyan ung na-experience ko but I could really say that their staff are not very accommodating. I understand that there are a lot of people waiting to be asked what their orders are by the cashier but it's not an excuse to make the other customers wait for their change. It took us 3 times to follow up for our change before the cashier attended to our concern. I don't know if this happens everyday but I'm sure that it's bad customer service that needs some action.

  13. OMG. Favorite ko pa naman to!!!!! =(

  14. Yes, I think sinisiraan lang ng nag post. Why is the 2nd picture practically empty? If I was drinking fr that and saw It halfway, i wouldn't want to see it again, let alone take a closer or better look just to take a good shot! Also, you've drunk it halfway and your pearls are still all together like that? Seems like you haven't touched your drink yet. If you're a competitor, then shame on you! I actually buy my bbt's more fr other competitors of this establishment, but if this is really fake, what a low blow fr the competitors.

  15. The friend of the letter sender informed me and some of my buddies. This was at the Greenhills branch and I suggest they file a complain, not good for milk tea lovers like me.

  16. C has already tweeted about that. According to him, we'll be hearing a statement from the management soon.

I can't help but think that this issue was made just to badmouth the store. :|

    ReplyDelete
  17. Fishy...you said you were halfway through when you discovered the insect but the pic shows that it' s almost ubos....and you said, you believe they had nothing to do with the insect. Why bother complaining?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am sure if she really complain the staff will surely do something, replace the drink, etc.... So this is purely PANINIRA!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. The letter sender herself said: "I believe that they had nothing to do with the insect in my drink" --- so why the hell would they apologize for something they didn't do and give you a free one? this is asking too much. and really, no ground for complaints. a CHEAP blow.

"As the drink had already been out of the store for several hours, the connection between the incident and the branch where the drink originated cannot be thoroughly substantiated."

and besides, if you already consumed half the tea, by then you would have already swallowed the roach.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sinisiraan mo lang ang H!!!! Not enough proof!!!

  21. and besides, if you already consumed half the tea, by then you would have already swallowed the roach.

How could she have swallowed the roach? kasya ba sa straw yun? Duh!!!

  22. yung unang picture hindi pa ubos yung iniinom niya pero nakuhaan ng shot na may ipis...inubos niya pa talaga?(according to the second image)and ang sago, hanggang maubos lahat sila nasa center???...naninira lang yan..

    ReplyDelete
  23. This is almost a week old. If you saw the original tweet, you guys wouldn't think that she planted it. WHY THE HELL WOULD SHE PLANT IT. AND HOW. This is common in the food industry. It just so happens that this is a business that "everybody loves" so a lot are in denial. The least they could do was apologize. But they didn't. Their loss.

  24. hi! Magkaibang drinks po yan... Magkaibang araw. Believe it or not,its up to you. Isolated case pero dapat mag ingat. Kilala ko kng knino galing ung frst picture. Nagulat ako may isa pa palang nkaranas ng ganyan.. Di naman balak manira. Jst sharing the info! Salamat.

    ReplyDelete
  25. sad...fave ko pa naman to :( question...wouldn't your drink taste funny coz the cockroach is there? mabilis humawa ang smell nyan eh... when we were in their GH branch the staff were very pleasant naman kahit makulit yung ibang nag-o-order na kiddos

    ReplyDelete
  26. Notice guys magkaiba ng color ung drinks... So magkaiba ngang araw yan. Be careful nalang sa pagbili kahit saang sosyal or jologs man ng bibilhan!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  29. The problem in the Philippines is, complaints are not welcomed - it is even evident by those who commented here! You are even questioning the credibility of the sender! What if that happens to you and NO ONE BELIEVES you? Tsktsk. The reality is, that really happens! Most often than not, you just dont see it directly on the food your indulging on!
What we should be trained into thinking is that whatever the remaining content of the food bought, if it is not at par with the quality it is meant to be, an apology should be made. This is not just particular with the brand in the picture but it should practiced in all establishments. And people should also be trained to look at things in a different light rather than just criticizing the complainer - KARMA comes around, you might be gulping on a cockroach later.

    - No its not sealed. They only seal it if you tell them its for take out.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Obvious na planted, kasi first: If notice, they get the milk tea from the big jugs, and sealed yun in a way na I don't think may makakapasok na ipis dun sa loob. sa tingin niyo magkakasya yung ipis na ganyan kalaki dun sa faucet of the jug from where the milk tea comes from? Second, bakit dikit dikit ang sago???? I always buy from this place at hindi nagdi dikit dikit yung sago nila, kung ganyan na lang kakonti yung drink, dapat marami ka ng nakain na sago. Honestly, this is very disappointing kung paninira nga lang ito.

    ReplyDelete

  33. How could she have swallowed the roach? kasya ba sa straw yun? Duh!!!
    September 24, 2011 8:39 AM

DUH ka rin... 1) if the roach was a mature adult one, the said customer should've already noticed a massive looking thing floating atop her drink. 2) Do you see the pic? or your asinine not-so-bright self cannot do spatial analysis?

    ReplyDelete
  34. malamang may flash sa unang pic kaya magkaiba kulay. wala ba kayong camera? haha.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Let us not judge the letter sender. Hindi naman niya siguro gustong manira specially if he/she is a competitor, you don't want others doing that to you too. Let's just take it as a warning that everytime we order food or drink is to scrutinize them carefully before consuming it. Really yuckkie if you are able to consume even a sip.

    ReplyDelete
  36. parang ang lakas ng feeling ko na planted to. i'm sorry but the picture looks fake. tsaka oo nga, bat white yung liquid sa 1st pic, tas naging brown sa 2nd pic??
Nevertheless, this teaches us to be cautious sa mga binibili nating food at drinks.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It's obviously planted. Tightly sealed yung containers ng mga drinks so it is impossible na may ipis dun (pano rin makaka lusot ang ipis sa spout?). Also, all drinks are put to a spindle mixer with ice. Dapat durog durog na yung ipis diba? :-p

    ReplyDelete
  38. Dear Fashion Pulis, My friend's friend knows one of the people connected to the company and this was not the case at all. Perhaps you should have facts checked before you post and destroy the reputation of a brand. My objective to sending you this comment is to warn you NOT to believe everything you read, hear or see. It's so easy to invent something.

  39. "To make things worse, when I complained to the lady at the counter, she simply ignored me. Although I believe that they had nothing to do with the insect in my drink, the least she could have done was to apologize and offer to replace it." of course every employee who was there has got everything to do with the product you received! even the lady in the counter who shoould haveinspected the drink. they represent the whole company. so you should not have been satisfied with the response you received. then ipopost na lang dito sa fp. that is unfair and i agree, the name of the company on the pic should have been hidden. by the time i finish my drink, the pearls are like mabibilang na lang. ito ang dami pa clumped together. i think the roach's appearance should have been more macerated if they have been floating in there for a long time. and if this blog reaches the company, i hope they change their containers and machine seal them. even the cheaper milk tea brands have that. was so disappointed when i first bought it and the containers were the same as fastfood drinks. XONie

    ReplyDelete
  40. This drink was taken by a bb phone with AND without flash. How can you not notice it?! And ISA pa, dikitdikit ung mga sago which gives a meaning na SUMAMA yng ipis sa drink. And hello patsy na ung ipis. There's no reason fr her to make this up especially if she is a fan of the drink. Why can't everyone just be careful with what you eat and drink. DI DAHIL SIKAT and MAHAL, Malinis na. It still depends on their storage area.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The story just doesnt add up. Why publish this FP if the establishment is not to blame? And I was planning to try this drink! How can I now. Whether it's true or not, no way I'd give this a try pa. The photos are plain gross.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I really have no idea anong drink yan and anong brand. I'm a soda lover. Any clues for me? =)

    ReplyDelete
  43. its more than half of your drink. more like tapos ko ng inumin ang soda ng mapansin ko na ang insect. ^^, enjoy the nutrients you can get. extra protein. ^^,

    ReplyDelete
  44. hahaha!! kaloka!! pati ba naman to pagaawayan?! ayan ni blur na tuloy ni fp yung pic.. kanina super obvious yung name ng company.. i dont think this is planted.. siguro.. bad drink lang talaga.. things happen.. to every resto.. hotel.. etc.. some people complain.. some dont.. malas mo lang kung complainer yung victim at that time.. and yes we have internet now.. as in world wide.. so i guess the establishments should be extra extra careful these days.. kse malaking effect talaga to sa company.. and the company should have just said sorry.. sabi nga nila.. good or bad publicity.. is still publicity.. and remember.. in advertising.. mas strong ang word of mouth.. and with internet now and hi tech phones.. mas mabilis na ang pagkalat ng info.. so i guess.. maski ano pang sabihin ng company.. more customers will back away na from the establishment.. and with their response pa na ganun.. they just made things worse fro themselves..

    ReplyDelete
  45. Diba dapat naka sealed yan? Hmmm.. Makikita niya agad yan.. Tsk'

    ReplyDelete
  46. wait sabi ni letter sender, the drink was half consumed when they realized/saw there's cockroach, how come that the 1st pic is still full. ???

    ReplyDelete
  47. of course people would speculate against the complaint. competitors are everywhere. if this is just a warning, care should have been taken to protect the company's name bec in the first place, there is a proper government agency for this. at true or not the circumstances mentioned are not enough to establish negligence of the company. so for us consumers, if we are going to complain, there should be no loopholes. and if you do not want to file a complaint in the proper forum and give details on how the photos were taken, why the pearls looked that way etc. do not expect readers to be on your side.
lumalasa talaga ang ipis. i once ate spaghetti na lasang ipis & hindi makakain talga. at i dont know with others, for a milk tea drinker, pag wala akong nasisipsip na pearls i mix it kse mahirap kainin ang pearls pag wala na tea. dyahe if you drink it from cup.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think this SHOULD JUST serve as a warning to all that anything we buy, may it be food or beverage, must be carefully checked before consumption happens. This is not the first time I read a complaint about this in the industry. In fact, halos every month may nababalitaan ako na ganitong balita from different food establishments.

This can happen anywhere and anytime specially here in the Philippines. :)

    ReplyDelete

  50. I've been following this 'issue' for the past days and nakakatawa kasi ang DAMING gustong sumawsaw sa eksena. A lot of people who retweeted this actually CLAIMED that it was their own drink. This is a good example of how rumors change the entire story, may it be real or fake. Crazy!!! Kalerkey!!!

To the source, I hear you, friend. My question is, why would you even ask for GCs if your drink got contaminated with roaches?! Hindi ba dapat automatic i-boycott na 'yan? Hm... Tsk2! I'll still be drinking milktea from the stores I love, nonetheless. :) Ciao!

    ReplyDelete
  51. nabiktima na ako ng ganito 3 times for the past 5 years in my stay here in manila. Isa sa hotel. Dalawa sa fastfood. hindi lang siguro talaga ako ma-complain na tao. mukhang normal to sa food business kasi may 1% chance na dumapo na kung anu-ano sa pag-prepare ng food or drink. alam mo naman dito sa atin, madumi! tao lang rin ang gumagawa at prone sa ganito. wala naman may gustong mangyari to but ingat na lang tayo sa lahat ng bibilhin natin. bibili pa rin ako jan mamaya kasi so far so good. never naman ngyari sa akin to. yun lang, thanks FP!

    ReplyDelete
Pang-apat, naubos mo ang drink before mo nakita may ipis?

    ReplyDelete
  53. I bet that this post will even draw crowd to the store. Sisikat pa lalo to mga friends! Swerte nila; libreng publicity ba naman. Haha! Try ko nga later if may ipis ang drink.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Di naman sa kinakampihan ko yung letter sender ah but I experienced the same thing but from a different company. I have a picture to prove pero it was a small ipis. Then I only noticed it after I drank the whole f*cking drink! Bad trip lang!

    DD

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm not a fan of the drink, I think they're over hyped... but I think panira lang ito because the store is really popular now. OH how easy it must've been to remove the cover of the cup and place a cockroach inside, then post away saying that "there's a roach inside my drink". Just being logical here.

    ReplyDelete
  56. girl bka nman plan mo lng mag tayo ng ganyan business kya cnisiraan mo cla.. :) peace!

    ReplyDelete
  57. to the letter sender- there is a proper venue for this kind of complaint. You should complain to BFAD. Sila na bahala makipag usap sa company.

    ReplyDelete
  58. attention seeking letter sender. enough said.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Nakakalito ha. Sabi mo you were almost halfway through your drink. Bakit yung first pic, full pa yung glass, mukhang untouched pa yung sago balls. Tapos yung other pic, almost done na yung drink but the sago ball are still intact. So that means these are not your drinks in the pics.

  60. Sept 24, 2011 11:32am - Well said :)

This incident can happen to anyone, anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  61. You should have checked how reliable the complainant is before posting these photos, investigate 1st, unfair to the company coz who knows, baka pakawala lang ng mga naiinggit na competitors lang yan. Coz kahit ano pang gawin nila, Pila pa rin ang company, I just came from GH branch kanina ang pila lalong humaba, umabot na ito sa labas near the stairs area. Lalo tuloy nainggit ang kanilang mga competitors kaya there's a big chance na ang LETTER SENDER mo ay naninira lang... TY FP - Andrew

    ReplyDelete
  62. looking at the photos.. same yan. different angle.

but weird naman yung sago part...

    ReplyDelete
  63. This incident happened to my friend so i know for a fact that it's 100% true. Funny how a lot of people are saying that this is fake. IT'S NOT. Why would anyone go through all this trouble in the first place? Ano bang makukuha pag nanira? Wala! GCs lang naman binigay nila. So hello, kailangan bang mag plant ako ng ipis sa drink ko just to get GIFT CERTIFICATES? Stop pretending that this didn't happen because it did. The public has the right know. We spend so much for expensive food and drinks, yet we're not given the quality that we deserve. Tsk tsk.

    ReplyDelete
I think this should serve as a lesson to be careful where you buy food and drinks.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Bakit naman buobuo yung sayo? First thing you do is to mix the drink with your straw. By the time ubos na ang drink mo dapat wala na yung sago diba!

    Magisip nga kayo

    ReplyDelete
HELLO...

    ReplyDelete
  67. halatang fake at planted ang ipis... Oh di kaya matagal na iniwan yung drinks kahit saan saan?? at nadapuan ng ipis... C'mon guys...

    ReplyDelete
  68. i don't think that the pictures are from different people. the pictures look so alike, the pearl being on the center and the location of the straw and roach. and also, in the first picture, it looks like it hadn't been touched yet, and if there was really a roach, then at the moment she got hold of the drink, she would have already seen it and complained about it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. This has got to be an effing joke. You mean to tell us na you drank your WHOLE drink (not half - duh?) and didn't notice that was there?!?! What the F were you smoking?!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Dear Miss HL

If you weren't hugged enough as a child or you just have too much time on your hands that is your business. But it isn't right for you to defame using slander. I dunno why you take pictures of roaches i dunno maybe that's how you get off but you seriously need to get your story and your head straight. First off you ordered what appears to be an iced milk tea drink from the said establishment. If so you, if you really go to such a place, i doubt it though, you would know how they prepare the drinks. You would know they add the ingredients one by one. You would know that they do it in plain sight, where you and all the other customers could see it. You would know they mix your drink with a machine that looks like a hand held mixer right before they pour it in your glass. They do this not just to mix your drink but to make sure the ice and tapioca pearls are properly separated. These are facts and they are without prejudice. With these facts you, and the rest of you haters should realize the inconsistencies of your story. One, you should notice that your so called roach is floating on your half empty drink. Now i don't really know the physics behind a dead roach in a drink maybe you can tell me because I don't really have that sort of time in my hands. But don't you think your alleged roach would have been floating at the start of your drink as well? But okay fine let's just say you were caught up with your friends or you're just ignorant. How about the taste? So you tell me that a dead roach, blended in to your drink, wouldn't taste foul at all? I dunno about you but if i had a dead blended roach in my drink I 'm pretty sure i'd taste it in the first sip. I dunno about you maybe you're used to the taste of dead roach in your drink but then why would you be complaining? The final two observations are the most telling of all. Like I said they mix the whole drink up with a mixer like machine. I dunno if you have seen this because I really doubt you are a patron of this establishment but they put a big metal rod in the middle of the cup that blends and mixes the drink with the pearls and everything in it, and then they pour it in your plastic cup. With this in mind why is your so called roach whole in your picture? Next why are all the tapioca pearls clumped together in a large mass? So you enjoy drinking your tea and clump together all your pearls? So you take out all the ice as well? Explain to me how in God's green Earth a whole dead roach could be found in a pre-blended drink. Explain to me how the pearls are clummped up in a pre-blended drink. Explain to me why you have a clump of tapioca pearls with your drink half empty. Explain to me why you can't taste roach, especially a supposed pre-blended roach. All these inconsistencies in your story do not add up at all. Pure logic dictates that your story is absolutely false or fabricated. You used the image to your advantage just to defame an establishment. You used the disgusting image of a roach in a drink to get the sympathies and emotions of those who would see it. Well you make me sick. You gross me out more than your sick image of a roach in a drink.
    X

  71. napaka popping bobba naman ng mga utak ninyo! kung biktima ka ng isang food store bakit ka pa hihingi ng GCs from that store? para gamitin uli? para maBIKTIMA uli? malamang iiwas ka na diba? napakacheap! ewwwww! so tsaoweeee!

    ReplyDelete
  72. naninira ka lang. by the time umabot sa ganyan na lang kadami inumin mo, dpat nasipsip mo na sa straw mo yan along with the other sago.

    ReplyDelete
  73. i heard that humihingi nga daw ng GCs from the store clerk/staff. This shows motive. Should have immediately brought the drink to DTI or any institution that can authenticate her claim.

    ReplyDelete
  74. wow, more than half na, pero yung nasa pic paubos na? inubos talaga para mapicturan?

and btw FP, famous ba yung sender? or maraming kakilalang celebrities? parang the second pic looks familiar, parang someone tweeted that pic, then nagcomment yung isang personality na finafollow ko (di ko maalala kung sino).

    ReplyDelete
  75. Parang kaka landing lang ng ipis, look at the head part, dry and shiny pa din. Else it would've been wet and with smudges of milk tea.

  80. naku talaga sa pinas ang daming delusional people. hindi porket mahal at sosyal eh hindi na pwedeng ipisin. mas naniniwala kayo dun sa company because of the name alone pero yung biktima na may ebidensya ayaw niyong paniwalaan. Bakit saan sa tingin niyo ang kukuha ng ipis para ilagay sa drink. nakita niyo naman na yan ay maliit na ipis hindi yung normal na malaki. ano yan nagpunta pa sa basurahan si letter sender para kumuha ng ipis na maliit. commonsense naman people. my friend who worked in a mall told me that there are restaurants that are very disgusting dahil pinuputakti daw talaga ng ipis at daga pero yung katabi hindi so nasa handling talaga yan ng mga tao.

Sabi niyo proper forum, hello THIS IS THE BEST FORUM para sa mga ganitong reklamo kasi the company is forced to respond. Yun nga lang, their response was lacking. Ngayon kung ayaw nyong maniwala, go ahead and order kayo at sana makain niyo yung ipis!

    ReplyDelete
  81. A friend of mine actually saw this incident happen at the store itself. Just don't know if the ipis was 'planted' there or not. Either way, still love this store!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Di nga? Staged yan, impossible! Ba't kumpol kumpol un pearls? Panira lang yan. I'm still going to drink it kahit may uod pa yan. xDDD

  83. DAMN fave ko pa nman to TSKK!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I also had this experience. I believe that the insect was inside the straw coz i when i first sipped it, i already felt something weird in my mouth. eeerr. kadiri tlga!

    ReplyDelete
  85. This could possibly be true.. These things happen not just here in the country but all around the world.. The best thing to do is to notify a staff about it... If the staff ignores you, call the manager but hold on to your evidence.. Don't let anyone touch it coz I had an experience where a waiter almost tried to throw away the mishandled food that I had just to get rid of the evidence.. I'm sure the manager is wise enough to handle this situation (complain how the staff treated you).. If you're nice enough, haven't touched the item yet, or if you think that it won't cause you any harm.. Then I guess a simple appology(and maybe a little something haha) will do.If it's something serious then press legal charges against them..

  86. may mga taong namemera lang sa company and will claim thats somethings wrong with the food. Anyone can claim anything

As per customer service, the staff involved should accommodate every customers queries

  87. Miss HL just hungers attention. Lady, if your family doesn't love you, go get love from your friends. That is, if you even have friends. Your claim is obviously a setup made by your cockroach-infested mind.

  88. Kalerqui talaga!! Fad lang itech... at malalaos din yan after a while. And this is purely a perfect example of too much hype for the establishment to create more patrons and be more popular, and of course...totally free advertisement. Kaloka talaga ang mga Pinoy. -KH

  89. I experienced something similar (different establishment) but, I think this is just made up or the roach fell off the ceiling or something. I noticed that there is a roach on my drink when I tasted the drink on my first sip. There's this irritating freshly squished cockroach-ish taste. You know, the smell of the roach when you step on it. I threw the whole drink right away and gargled like crazy.

I dont think purchasing/drinking milk tea makes people "pasosyal". For me, Ive been drinking milk tea ever since chowking's nai-cha, not because its uso but because its yummy. Just saying. :)))
