Cheapipay (Cheapskate)

A cheapskate is a stingy person who tries to avoid paying a fair share of costs or expenses. In Filipino slang, we call this kind of person as "cheapipay".

I don't mean to toot my own horn but my friends can definitely attest to this. Whenever I am dining with them, as much as possible, I try to reach for the bill first when it arrives. If I were joining a group of people that I am not so familiar with for dinner, what I do is I  initiate to put in more money for what I have ordered to avoid the awkward computation. When it comes to footing the bill, I am proud to say that I am not "cheapipay" unlike this female celebrity in today's blind item.

This female celebrity prefers to hang out with friends (male or female) who automatically reaches for the bill when it arrives. She enjoys the company of generous people who do not worry about who ordered what, and who would gladly pay for her dinner and drinks. What is worse is that when the bill is delivered to the table, she does not even make a show of reaching into her designer purse.

Do you know who this female celebrity is? Open your eyes widely and I am sure you will find the answer.

I would like to request you to observe the guidelines in posting comments. Please follow micsylim on Twitter if you need additional clues on the female celebrity.

Thank you very much for always supporting Fashion PULIS. Continue to send your juicy stories to michaelsylim@gmail.com.

  12. I want to correct FP, say that Kuripot is more appropriate than Cheapipay based sa description nya sa asal ni actress pero baka clue ang cheapipay haha. Cheapipay is more of lacking class kasi unlike kuripot na makunat talaga - kahit meron pera di magbabayad kung makakalibre. Cheapipay is walang class kahit may pera or pwede din wala na nga pera, asal palengkera pa. Also used for objects that are priced really cheap or look cheap.

Now, the million dollar question is sino to? Haha I have no idea! Malaki ba mata? Sabi kasi "open your eyes widely". Clues please :D

  50. Lollipop is that you?

    ReplyDelete
  51. That's not fair. Not everyone has that much money and thus can be generous when it comes to paying the bill. Probably that actress has some financial troubles and maybe she just wants to pay for just what she ordered. I dont consider her as a cheapskate. I feel bad for this actress because some people aren't that understanding when it comes to money problems because they themselves aren't in that situation. C'mon FP, what is happening to you? This doesnt sound like a blind item, more like an act of discrimination.

    ReplyDelete
  52. ooops wala pang comment hehe

    ReplyDelete
  53. was she the one featured sa past blog niyo na 3-5 persons lang ang umattend sa concert niya?? Popsicle ice cream :)

  54. read the inquirer's RUSHES and learn. while their bi's are juicy and sweet, yours are sooo loopy and wordy. remember, brevity is the soul of wit!

(reach for the bill? why can't you just say pick up the tab?

    ReplyDelete
  55. i think the answer is in the title cheaPIPAY...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Veteran actress ba ito na nagfile ng case against sa lasenggerong malikot ang kamay??? :P

    ReplyDelete
  57. si duling ba ito?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well, if I hear the word Pipay, I only have one person in mind. She's no longer a successful actress nor singer, so I guess celebrity nalang siya? The former Queen?

    ReplyDelete
  68. for the first time, i beg to disagree with FP about his definition of cheapipay. Cheapipay is not a stingy person but someone who is "easy to get, easy to convince." To some, cheapipay means pokpok.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Cheapipay can mean many things, usage is relative. In this case, FP should have used "freeloader" to describe the person in the article.

      Delete
  69. Hahahahaha!!! I think I know her. If this is indeed who I think it is, then this may be the celebrity who had a super flop concert a few months ago. People close to her indeed chose the right term of endearment for her--- cheap-PIPAY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Si CHEAPipay talaga ito!

    ReplyDelete
  71. hehehe. kilala ko ito... she's royalty daw, pero has-been na eh... she's also friends kuno with another royalty as in beauty queen and was recently linked to the eligible politician (but not necessarily bachelor...)

    tama ba ako, FP???

    ReplyDelete
  72. parang ginaya yung lips nya sa lips ng cartoon character na bratz

    ReplyDelete
  73. Don't open your eyes that much, people. It might POP out! Wahahaha!

Saw her lately in one of the business events. Mga two weeks ago yata yun. Hindi ko nga sya namukhaan kasi she doesn't look stunning naman. And what is she even doing there? LOL

    -- DC

    ReplyDelete
  74. open your eyes widely also means "POP" your eyeS out, am i right?! :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  76. dear 3:24,
wala naman masamang pinapalabas si FP! and tama lang na if you dont have money, wag ka nalang sumama or umalis. kesa umasa kang may ibang magbabayad sayo. FP was just saying to at least pay your share and not pay for the bill. some people are too shallow sometimes. Affected much?! hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  77. wag niyo nalang kaya pakialamanan ang title na gusto ni FP. pasalamat nga tayo he has a blog like this. Pinaganda lang niya yung title :)

    ReplyDelete
  78. Ooohh FP!! Kilala ko Ito and her friends..Medyo rich girls ang friends lalo na ang 2 sisters na lagi niyang kasama (sa kanila sya lagi nagpapalibre..or nakikisali). May sumisingit pa lagi na gay makeup artist. People, tama ang guesses ninyo Kung sino si cheapipay!!

    Totally agree with you.

FP, spare yourself from further shame. Write in Tagalog. Your English is despicable.

  83. di ba there was an isyu before that she was with friends G and R and when G card was decline . di man siya (sila) nagpretend na sila na lang ang magbabayad and ahve to wait G's partner go to hotel to pay their bill

    ReplyDelete
  84. to 10:19 wala namang problema kung ano ang gustong gamiting title ni FP. he is entitled to it...ang mali yung definition niya ng word na cheapipay. yun lang ang gustong i-correct naming ibang readers. constructive naman eh saka for his improvement din sa choices of words na gagamitin niya sa mga susunod na articles. peace!

    ReplyDelete
  85. To anonymous aug16 4:46pm -rily? Must u be so critical wd FP's choice of words? Hu r u? A world class journalist? Jeez! Get a lyf! FP is only here to entertain us and not to Teach us wth english 101! And inquirer's BI is obviously written in such a way that even cursety fermin and ogie diaz wud hav difficulty answering it. And this site is a damn blog and not a column in a widely circulated broadsheet! What a condescending intellectual poser!!! Grrrr! -as for d BI, FP knows dat d appropriate term for this is cheapskate but then his BI's titles are always brimming wth clues...so FP must hav patterned it to d has-been queen moniker...hus singing voice is as good as my neighbor's karaoke-whoring skills..hehe -stelena

  86. I wonder bakit nagkakaganito si Cheapipay? If I recall correctly ung mom nya socialite, ung dad lang nya ung "commoner" kahit artista. So she was born rich, had a successful and long career - even if nagretire na to after her separation from hubby (why she even married him I don't know tsk tsk) she should be set for a cushy life. Unless may bisyo sya, she shouldn't really have a hard time maintaining a sushal lifestyle. So this is somewhat sad... I always found her beautiful, not the best at what she does kahit may queen churva title pa sya but yeah growing up I always found her pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  87. best friend kasi sya ng isang editor ng socialite mag. kaya maski walang career laging may press coverage and always invited to parties and events.

    mabuhay ka, FP!

    ReplyDelete
  95. @Carla> LOL. Like WTF? Just STFU! FP need not use hifaluting words for he may not be understood by some readers. Maybe you're a Jeje pretending to be a socialite like RdV.

to FP> pleeeeeease do not stoop down to her level. i super love the way you write. ;)

  97. Not that I'm siding with Fashion Pulis's detractors or anything, but I must say to those coming to FP's defense... Don't anymore. You're just embarrassing yourselves (and maybe FP too, if I were FP).

Just give up attempting to sound smart and educated if you don't have the grammar and spelling skills to back it up.

With that said, j'adore Fashion Pulis. :-)

  98. hay nako. carla and 4.whatever. if you're looking for good english writers, website ng diaryo ang basahin nyo wag ito. at hatest ko un mga self righteous like these two. dun kayo sa cnn, inquirer, bbc magbasa wag dito mga chismosa din kayo. echosera.
if there's anything fun about this site, the readers are all like super friends so yun mga feelingera like you, stop reading the BIs if you're just going to spoil the fun. siguro u dont have friends kaya english nalang ng ibang tao ang tinitira mo. Haha!

  99. We all have different writing styles. Some are comfy with textbook english, some are not. Different strokes for different folks.

But this is FP's blog. Go write your own blog if you have any qualms on FP's english. Anong paki mo? If you want to find your chismis on some broadsheet where the language is easier on you, then go. Stop complaining when you're here for what's latest on the grapevine.

Mike, I don't need the drama, so posting once again as anonymous. Mwah!

  100. @Carla - FP admits he's not a prolific writer and the purpose is to entertain. I think he achieved his goal judging by the number of comments and people defending him (consider me one of them). Now, if you find his use of the English language despicable, then stop reading the blog. And I'm sure that he chooses his words with care to be able to give subtle clues. I admire that skill because it's not something they teach you in Comm I, II or III in any university. Grammar can be learned but to fill a whole paragraph with hidden clues is something else.

@FP - love the blog. keep writing and ignore the lambasting. someone wise once told me: if people put you down, it means you are on top. if you have detractors, it means you are famous. and i believe that you are.

  105. FP's blog is not an English class...To those who are criticizing his choice of words make a blog of your own on how to use English correctly. I don't feel there's anything wrong with how he uses his words in writing. I don't feel less of a person as well, nor am I embarrassed defending his writing style as opposed to a comment I've read above. To those giving suggestions, why not write it in private rather than openly giving your hateful words. Seems to me that you want to brag about your knowledge in English. More power to you FP! I hope you will continue expressing yourself by writing these blogs. I sincerely enjoy reading your blogs, I really LOOOOOVEEEE them! Have a safe trip! :))))
