Underestimated Bond

As soon as the Next Candidate (NC) for the auditions was called in, the panel was shocked to see who was standing in front of them trying her luck. NC, a homegrown talent of the rival network came and bravely faced them, the ‘enemy.’ NC’s appearance made the panel uneasy, as intrigue might be raised with the presence of NC.

As NC was already there anyway, the panel gave her a chance to show her piece. She gave the audition her all and the question and answer part followed. An early question asked was if her present management knew she was going to them. NC replied with a negative. NC was then informed that the panel will do a call-back of auditionees who made it to the short-list. NC was indeed hopeful.

What NC did not think of is that even if rivalry exists, networks have silent agreements when it comes to talents. For example, Network 1 (N1) and Network 2 (N2) have negotiations involving their talents. N1 could ‘borrow’ certain talents and N2 would agree, as the opportunity could boost the career of such talents. In the case of NC, her crossing of the line without permission could jeopardize the relationship of N1 and N2.

Out of courtesy, a senior official of NT1 called up NT2 to inform them of NC’s field trip. N2 appreciated the call and subsequently, NC was called to explain her side. NC allegedly said that she wanted to try her luck and that she had no intention to malign her home station. N2 management then told NC that she could not make decisions on her own, as she is under their management and she has a contract. Besides, if she gets the role, she cannot just be dropped out of her on-going projects.

Moreover, her network already has a limited number of talents and loveteams and if NC makes the move, her action would affect the talent development of the network. Before NC could even bother to think of jumping ship, her management would not let her go easily. She’s too valuable to let go. However, the question remains if she would be given a next project, as she did defy the station.

Incidentally, according to the grapevine, NC failed to impress the panel. Her acting was below par and unfitting for the role.
