This could be one of the biggest flops in DreamWorks history. Personally, I didn’t like the animation style or the characters, and I also felt that Liza & HER wasn’t the right choice for the role. If they had cast a well-known Hollywood actress for the voice, it might have had a bigger chance of reaching a global audience and showcasing Filipino culture to the world. It’s just sad to see that this movie didn’t get the support it deserved.
Eh di hindi na siya representation if you cast a non Filipino Hollywood actresses for the lead role. Nagawa naman ng KPop Demon hunters to be have a well told story which highlights Korean culture and at the while also casting Korean actors and actresses.
Nah. Kpop Demon Hunters has Kpop and Korean culture on its side (which is HUGE), catchy songs, and an easy to digest plot. It would have done decently in theaters, even if the choice to release it on streaming only helped boost its popularity, in hindsight.
I think another main issue with the film is that there's kind of a loss of translation between Filipinos who are culturally Filipino and overseas Filipinos who grew up in the United States and are more of a mix between the two cultures. I've seen the movie and I do really like it and think it's a nice little charming movie but, with that being said, it does not at all come off to me as a movie that was created with current Philippine culture or sensibilities in mind. This is very much a movie geared towards Filipino-Americans and that's fine but it does limit the potential audience.
Hindi ko gets papano ng flop in my cinema here in CA whatever AMC theater i check, 80% full naman or More. Ang walang tao yung mga 3D cinema. Tapos over time mag sold out na din sa Pilipinas. Through word of mouth I feel this could get better tapos yung iba naghihintay pa ng salary sa 30th sa Pinas.

ReplyDeleteThe fact na kahit Pinoy e di nag enjoy ng Forgotten Island means na it's not even for Filipinos. Do you know how ironic is that? It also shows how they see our culture, like how they handle Alex Eala, and that is mob culture. I read a review na di daw alam who the movie is for, that only Asian women appreciated the movie and that's a startling minority. Aminin na natin na tayo nga pilit ang understanding ng culture natin aside from the memes to be marketed commercially on a global level kasi mejo European na di naman Europe, meron Asia na di naman Asia, Latino na di naman Latino at american na di naman America on top of a corrupt culture.

ReplyDeleteHindi kasi maganda yung character design. Okay pa ung Turning Red, Moana at Encanto kasi the world building was established and more importantly, the designs are attractive. It's animation so it will be the first thing to attract. Nalungkot ako kasi parang di pinag isipan pero yung Encanto kahit yung first drafts nila, magaganda and full of love and culture. I'll watch it on streaming. Everything in our minds famous kasi ang Pinoy dahil babad online. Dapat na magising tayo na out of all the SEA countries, tayo ang walang culture appreciation. Kung yung Raya nga hindi nag work at White Lotus 3 nag flop, what more yung Forgotten Island. Lesson learned na dapat hindi cash grab pag SEA ang setting.

DeleteHere is my POV as someone nakanood ng movie. It depicts Filipino Values and Cultures. May pinoy humor. Para sa akin maganda ang animation though ung story fast pacing na incorporate nila ang 2d for flashback. Maganda naman ang story nya although parang may mga question ka s mga ibang characters, propabably may part 2 ung story kung napanood mo alam mo na ung tonutukoy q. In general i dont think pasok sya sa iba. hindi sya para sa lahat enjoy q naman ung movie which baligtad kami ng nephew q ng tinanong q kung nagustuhan niya sabi nya konti lng probably kasi 10 yes old na sya kaya iba ang trip niyang animation.
