In what category and contribution aside from shouting and creaming while singing?
ReplyDeleteBy inspiring a lot of aspiring singers, conteseras, by being a gay icon
ReplyDeletePakisearch bago kumuda!
DeleteRegine V has a massive catalog of original Filipino music (OPM) hits spanning decades. Iconic original songs include "Dadalhin," "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw," "Pangarap Ko ang Ibigin Ka," "Shine," "Narito Ako," "Urong Sulong," and "Maghihintay Ako Sa 'Yo,"
DeleteAs a Tita's in Manila na madalas nakikinig ng countdown dati sa radio back in the day, ang mga non-cover hit songs niya ay Promdi, Urong-Sulong, Please Be Careful With My Heart, Isang Lahi, Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang, Babalik Kang Muli, You've Made Me Stronger, In Love With You (from her international album duet with Jackie Cheung hit song at that time din sa some Asian countries Japan in particular), Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka, Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw, Hanggang Ngayon. In addition, her rags to riches story, rags to riches story.
DeleteDadalhin, Shine, and Narito Ako are cover songs but were not hit songs. Regine made them popular.
Sana Maulit Muli, she made it like her own. Sobrang sumikat yung revival niya nung 90s.
Regine had platinum awards from her international albums. Inspiration ng mga sikat na singers. She deserves that spot coz she's an OPM institution.
she had originals that were better than what we listen to today. if she had covers, they were good songs also. nag hit nga din ang mga covers nya di ba?
Shine was a finalist of Metro Pop Song Festival entry and won 2nd runner up, originally recorded by Ima Castro in 1996 for the Metro Pop Album 1996. Although, si Sweet Plantado of The Company yung nag-perform sa Finals Night kasi nasa Miss Saigon na si Ima Castro. Popularized lang ni Regine for the commercial.
DeleteThe problem with regine is she didn't make herself original.
Deletepero pinoy is stuck sa pagiging copycat singers. gayang-gaya pati style, walang originality.
Angeline Quinto 🤪
ReplyDeleteshe will never be on par.. wala pa nga sa sarah g level kay regine para!
Delete2:47 Ma-bash mo lang si Sarah, no. Forever's Not Enough and Ikot-Ikot, Sa Iyo, How Could You Say You Love Me original ni Sarah yun.
ReplyDelete11:52 Nyeh! Bakit ilan taon ka na ba? Kung 30+ ka pa lang. You missed a lot in Filipino music in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
DeleteHa?? Kase?? Standard of excellence??
Not Lea kasi international sumikat si Ms. Lea.
Self made sya.. The one and only.. Reg..
ReplyDeleteTrue. She also had original songs that made me appreciate opm at a young age. And kahit remake/covers ang ibang songs, you would hear how she made it different from the original yet maganda pa rin ang kanta. ("Don't wanna miss a thing" version of hers was something I would listen to over & over again)
Delete809 Sana Maulit Muli, she made it hers. Ang daming kontisera na yan ang kinakanta. Pero iba yung range at emotion ni Regine when she was singing it during her prime years. I remember when she performed that in Japan, hindi naiintindihan ng mga hapon, pero emotional sila habang pinapanood yung performance.
DeleteRegine is a glorified Karaoke singer
ReplyDeleteher songs were used in singing competitions, not just in karaoke. She made us also proud in the contests she joined in the international scene. check your facts first
ReplyDeleteFor what?
ReplyDeletefor being one of the inspirations of the great singers we have now?
DeleteThe Ultimate Cover Singer
ReplyDeletePenoys have no originality just doing covers of Whitney Mariah and Celine songs 😆
ReplyDeleteRegine Velasquez is often called the “Asia’s Songbird” and widely regarded as one of the greatest Filipino singers due to a combination of technical mastery, emotional delivery, and long-standing influence. Regine Velasquez isn’t just technically gifted—she shaped what Filipino vocal excellence sounds like. Her combination of skill, influence, and emotional depth is why many consider her the greatest.
ReplyDelete1. Exceptional vocal technique
Regine is known for:
• Wide vocal range (often cited around 3–4 octaves)
• Strong control of belting, head voice, and mixed voice
• Ability to sustain high notes with clarity and power
Her live performances—especially in the late ’80s to early 2000s—set a benchmark for vocal excellence in OPM (Original Pilipino Music).
2. Distinctive tone and style
Her voice has a bright, ringing quality that cuts through orchestration, making it instantly recognizable. She also popularized the “birit” style (power belting), which became a defining trait of many Filipino singers after her.
3. Emotional interpretation (hugot factor)
Beyond technique, she delivers songs with deep emotional authenticity. Tracks like “Dadalhin,” “Pangako,” and “On the Wings of Love” resonate because of how she conveys vulnerability, longing, and intensity.
4. Cultural and industry impact
• Helped elevate Filipino vocalists on the global stage after winning the Asia Pacific Singing Contest
• Became a standard reference point for aspiring singers in the Philippines
• Influenced generations of artists, including Sarah Geronimo, Morissette, and KZ Tandingan
5. Longevity and consistency
Her career spans over three decades, with continued relevance in concerts, television, and recordings. Few artists maintain both vocal ability and public appeal at that level for so long.
6. Versatility
She has successfully performed across:
• Pop and ballads
• Classical crossover
• Film soundtracks
• Live orchestral concerts
And???? No one is taking the things you listed away from her.. there's just a few of us na asking what the criteria is. Because woman of the year???
DeleteBut only Filipino Audiences knows about it.. No one else
Delete323 Because they try to imitate the belters but they fail. If you understood the number 3 entry of 1:31, he/she mentioned about vocal technique. A lot of wannabe singers doesn't have that skill yet. They need to be trained and learn to sing within their range so it won't sound like shouting.
DeleteYoung millennials, gen z and gen alpha spotted. Hindi nangyari sa era niyo so you won't really believe it. Basta she is one of the best Filipino singers and top Filipino female artist of all time. Original ng DoReMi ang I Can and original niya ang You Are My Song.
ReplyDeleteNot a super fan of Regine but I'm an OPM fan, and I know and aware of her contributions in the entertainment industry (not National artist level though). I'm challenging these people who discredit Regine's achievements. Sino ang OPM female artist ang sa tingin niyo mas madaming achievements compared to Regine sa TV, movies, Asia, and OPM? Closest is Sarah G. (who I truly love) but Sarah's international albums didn't receive gold and platinum awards across Asia, locally lang. Both are influential pero iba yung pagiging icon ni Regine sa Accla Nation. Hindi ito Google searched ha. Ito yung mga nasa news ng music articles before and sa mga entertainment TV shows.
ReplyDeleteTo these pa-woke, until you experience the life before nung golden years ng Filipino entertainment industry, you don't have the right to discredit these artists who are now institutions of the industry.
Ante, nabasa mo ba award? "Woman of the year" award. Hindi naman yan lifetime achievement. Wala nga ako alam na hit song nya this year. Maski ganap nya, wala. Yung champion advertisement lang
Delete9:51 Na buhay? Maybe Sharon and Sarah. If kasama yung wala na, si Miss Nora Aunor. Apart from them, no one has comes close.
We all know naman na grabe contribution ni Regine sa music industry during 90s to 00s pero the title is Woman of the Year 2026. Dapat ibigay to someone na malaki ang impact this year.
Let me tell you something, composers usually compose songs and they intend to give that song to the singer of their choice.
DeleteSiguro pwede dati, but this year?🤔
ReplyDelete10:27 Sino ba ang mai-sa-suggest mo?
Delete1027 Billboard Philippines Woman of the Year started nung 2024 lang. Si Sarah nung 2024. Then, 2025 Bini. So anong year mo gustong ibigay kay Regine yung award? Treat it as lifetime achievement for Regine which she deserves. Puwede namang gumawa ka ng sariling mong Woman of the Year na gusto mong manalo.
DeleteWala naman syang ambag sa OPM music this year.
ReplyDeleteIn contrary dun sa mga know-it-all / Google-Wikipedia-dependent maritess, here are original hit songs of Regine Velasquez . You are my song and Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw yung natatandaan kong nag-number for several weeks sa mga radio stations. Those were the days.
Solo original-recording hit songs of Regine:
1. Promdi
2. Urong-Sulong
3. Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang
4. Babalik Kang Muli
5. You've Made Me Stronger
6. You Are My Song
7. Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw
8. Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka
Duets
1. Please Be Careful With My Heart (with Jose Mari Chan)
2. In Love With You (with Asian pop superstar Jacky Cheung). This was super hit not just locally but in southeast and East Asia.
3. Muli (with Gary Valenciano)
4. Forever (with Martin Nievera)
5. Hanggang Ngayon (with Ogie Alcasid)
Trio
1. I Can (with Donna Cruz and Mikee Cojuangco)
Delete659 Jusko, hinfi ka si Jackie Cheung to discredit Regine's contribution to the song.
DeleteYou've Made Me Stronger. Under yun ng Listen Without Prejudice album na nag-platinum sa Taiwan, Hongkong and Japan.
Ako proud ako as Filipino as someone who loves music.
659 Wrong ka sa comment mong yan if you were not living in Taiwan in the 90s.
Regine is not famous in taiwan. Taiwanese people dont know her.
Delete6:59 I was a solid fan of Jackie Cheung during his popular years and never he boasted the success of his projects to his popularity alone. So, we fans would never. I hope you were here in Hongkong that time to witness that a lot of casual music lovers supported In Love With You, not beccause of our Heavenly King but the song was truly good and ethereal, and we loved the charm and talent of Ms. Regine Velasquez. Her album was successful.
Delete659, andyan sa listahan sa itaas. Hanapin mo na lang. And yes, sa Asia not just in the Philippines.
ReplyDelete354 Isa pang know-it-all pa-woke.
DeleteWhere is OPM now 😆
Regine is a singer/interpreter like these popular female opm singers of the previous generations; lea salonga, nora aunor, kuh ledesma, dulce, donna cruz, vina morales, sheryl cruz etc.
Nora, Regine and Sarah's rags to riches stories were inspiration to aspiring young singers. Stories that gave hopes to them that dreams do come true.
Tanong ko lang dito sa mga nagrereklamo. Magbigay kayo ng specific na female artist who deserves this award.
ReplyDeleteGalit sa mga nepo babies. Pag sariling sikap yung success, galit pa din. Grabeng manlait ng success ng ibang tao. Pero tingnan mo buhay nila, kasulasulasok. Kaya ganyan siguro ugali nila.
ReplyDeleteSunod sunod ang reply ni ateng🤣
