  2. I just discovered that the executive producers of the film are E.A. Rocha and Fernando Ortigas, both coming from long-entrenched Spanish mestizo landed families in the Philippines. This is not about personalities or making accusations against them as individuals. This is about understanding the powerful historical context behind who gets to shape our national narrative.

During Spanish colonization, the Philippines was controlled not directly by Madrid, but through local spanish elites, mestizo families, friars and landholding clans who accumulated vast wealth and political influence through the encomienda and hacienda systems. Under colonial law, land was often granted or claimed by these elites using the principle that as far as the eyes could see, land could be declared theirs. Indigenous Filipinos and native communities were dispossessed of ancestral lands, reduced to tenants on their own soil and placed under systems of tribute, forced labor and rent.

These elites were not passive observers of history. they were active beneficiaries and enforcers of colonial rule. Their influence carried through the american period and into the modern era, where landownership translated into political power, media influence and control over cultural institutions. Many of today’s largest estates and business centers originated from these colonial land grants. For example, Ortigas & Company traces its roots to these historical estates, which eventually developed into Ortigas center.

This is why it matters who produces films about Philippine history. When descendants of colonial-era landed families finance or shape films about our past, it is reasonable to critically examine the lens through which that history is being told. We must ask: Is the narrative aligned with the truth of our struggle against colonization or does it subtly sanitize, glorify or reinterpret events in favor of elite perspectives?

This is not about attacking individuals. It is about recognizing that throughout history, those who hold economic and social power have also controlled the writing and filming of history. If we do not question these narratives, we risk consuming propaganda disguised as patriotism. History is not just what happened; it is what we are allowed to remember.

    1. Tama ka. Kaya pala si Xandra Rocha Marcos puring puri ang pelikula.

Kung si Ed Rocha, tinawag na political satire ang pelikulang pinondohan nya, paano tayo makasisiguro na accurate ang pelikulang ito?

    3. Love this. :) thanks for the history lesson din; it's summarized well. Good that you pointed out. Kaya ko din tiningnan yung producers nito. Baka kasi ang ending ng mga historical movies is to just push propaganda from one elite to another without identifying the root cause of why are still corrupt. Sila sila din yan. It's keeping the wealth within these families and the citizens are just mere consumers pero sila din ang yumayaman lagi. Politicians and the rich have always been allies since power and money often go hand in hand. Kaya blinded tayo kung sino lang ang yumaman at nasa mataas na posisyon.

Petite, morena and makinis. Very alta and expensive ang aura nya. Nakakahiya lang talaga magpapicture sa place na yun kahit kaming dalawa lang naman that time haha. Yung pwede nya ko sabihan na eto 10M, layuan mo ako haha.

  6. Totoo yan sa ibang bansa ang focus from kinder to grade 3 are reading and story re- tell or tinatawag nating comprehension na you challenge young readers to explain the 5 W ‘s of retelling a story and every kids must demonstrate improve reading and comprehension skills as they move up a grade.

Dahil sino ba tinutukoy nyang "run by Filipinos"? Eh di sarili nya kasi sya leader nun..Nahiya pa..ginamit pa FILIPINOS, di nalang dinirecho "RUN BY ME"

  10. As a History student, I agree Ms. Pinky. When we research and write history and use historiography, we have to validate, verify and retest our data over and over again. For Historians, calling a movie a biopic means that ginamit and historiographic treatment. If gawin siyang source material ng pagaaral, dapat tapat sa kasaysayan. Therefore this movie does not pass the history litmus test and is a false narrative. It also means it misrepresents Quezon and that is all kinds of wrong.
